Hello Community, this evening I will be having dinner with a regional captain that’s flying into my local commercial airport! Flies for a regional airline based in Utah. Does United Express as well as delta connection

May you please ask him the following question as I really need an answer for it. The question is “let’s say an airline gives you two options which are the ERJ145 or the CRJ-200, do you need to get type ratings for them and then ask he airline for permission to pilot the aircraft, or does the airline offer a specific aircraft and they pay the type ratings”
