Did Anybody Hear a Plane in NYC?

Uh, so I live in Brooklyn, NY, and I was just walking to the laundromat when I heard a loud noise, it sounded like a fighter jet, and literally everybody around me looked up. It sounded extremely low. It’s real scary hearing that, especially on the day before 9/11. Does anybody know what that was? Any military testing going on? I even checked FR24 and CNN to make sure nothing happened.

Haha I had something happen like that about 30 minutes ago - and then I looked up and saw a Delta MD-88 on final to KSRQ.

I don’t…I’m on a semi-holiday/training block in Bradenton at the moment.

Does (QN) mean Queens? Because that would be far away from me. And I don’t live anywhere near the Hudson. Whatever. If something happened, the media would’ve gotten to it by now.

They were probably returning to Newark Airport.

Oh my gosh I was visiting some friends in Brooklyn and I saw 5 fighter jets roaring over me . It was so loud I thought some plane was gonna come crashing down . Wow it was so cool I think they were in a formation. Wow that’s cool someone else also heard them besides me. Your not the only one I heard the exact same thing lol

I’m pretty sure ever since the attacks it’s always publicised when ever there will be a flyover as the sight of a low plane or even the sound is a bit daunting for most residents in New York after what happened

In England all we get is the occasional cessena / sky news copter

Haha not true at all the other week I saw a fighter jet flying at around 2000ft which was quite weird but the best of the Red Arrows flying to Bristol Airport or even the planes landing in Cardiff, you should move so where else maybe Hounslow that would be pretty amazing

This probably was not but the USAF air defense twice a year do large city drills to train to defend againsed something like 9/11. They train often and fly low like they would in real

First time I’ve ever heard an aircraft that low in an urbanized area.

Military aircraft over civilians is surprisingly common here in SoCal.

Lol your story is funny I’m pretty sure they were practicing for an airshow for tomorrow! Today I saw Air Canada 777 flying past my house and noticed it was not flying the way it should be, all planes that have flew past my house are very low with their gears down but this Air Canada was too high, too slow and making a sharp turn to the left and I was like WHAT now is this the next 9/11 or something! I waited to see if something will happen but it came back this time flying the way it should and it was just a missed approach because the plane was too high.

My airport has very broken approach patterns, so I get planes going to the front, back, or over my house of heights varying 500ft.

Have you been to an Airshow with fighter jets included? They sound terrible! Extremely terrible like something I don’t wanna hear again in my life so your experience should have been horrible

I surely have, and it’s one of the greatest sounds ever.

Really? They sound like death, you can even hear them when you block your ears

I don’t see the issue with them being loud, of course they are loud.
