DFW is Mid | 2/1/2025

Hello Community!

I’m back with another spotting topic! But at a different airport than usual, yesterday I made my first apperance at DFW even after being in college here for the past year and a half! It was a nice and warm Feburary day and I had nothing better to do so I decided to make my first spotting trip up to DFW from Fort Worth! As a coloradan its depressing to see there be no background or mountains so that leads me to my conclusion. No Mountains = Mid → DFW = Mid. Hope you enjoy!

First up we have the king of the skies a British Airways A380 coming in from London!

Here we have an American 787 Dreamliner seconds from touchdown coming in from maintenance in Tulsa!

Now we have an American 777-200 on short final arriving from somewhere in Europe idk I can’t remember where.

Here we have a FIJI Airways A350 coming in after a long flight from Fiji obviously.

Here we have a UPS 747-8F holding short of the runway waiting to cross after arriving from Louisville!

Flaghsip Valor on short final from somewhere on the West Coast.

Here’s an American A319 gliding over an American flag, how patriotic ik.

Here’s a close-up of an American (do you see a theme here?) A321Neo seconds from touchdown.

Next up is a Cargolux 747-8F burning the rubber at DFW after a quick hop over from Mexico City!

Finally, here’s an American 787 Dreamliner arriving after a very long flight over the Pacfic from Shanghai!

gotcha always wondered how cuz it looked really cool, I’ll try it out with one of my photos soon

Okay so im just gonna start by saying, you call this airport “mid” yet the first photo you share is of the largest passenger plane in the world which is wild to me. Anyway hope you enjoyed my local!

Its like yall want to start a fight… dont give in mason dont give in

I’ve been spotting here for 8 years. It has variety, but nothing like LAX or ORD. It is mid. Zero scenery, and besides the occasional heavy, there isn’t much to spot.

Having A380 service and still being mid is the only thing that’s wild

ok I know it’s Dallas and everything but please elaborate because I do not feel as if DFW deserves this hateful slander…

The operations are too spread out and the spots are predominately really far from the planes. Normally that results in some spots with a cool backdrop but DFW doesn’t really have that except for the Hyatt where you have to pay and Founders where it’s a back-angle most of the time which is less interesting. Departures from Founders is front angle but since DFW is north of the equator the sun is in the south most of the time so the lighting situation on north flow is weird. Variety is not much, mostly AA. It’s not the worst airport ever but for having 7000 something weekly departures it’s mid.

Also direct N/S runways are bad for lighting. You really want morning or evening engine light which in the northern hemisphere means something between 04/22 and 09/27 generally

Hate to say it but the spotting factor isnt the main thing that makes an airport “mid”. Lets be real the general population does not care about that. Lets just say passenger experience is definitely better here than it is in lets just say ORD or LAX. But anyway leta move on cause your opinion is yours and mine is mine :) 👌

No no, we’re specifically saying that DFW IS mid for spotting. Not for the other reasons you listed. It’s a fine airport, just sucks for spotting.
