I’m back with another spotting topic! But at a different airport than usual, yesterday I made my first apperance at DFW even after being in college here for the past year and a half! It was a nice and warm Feburary day and I had nothing better to do so I decided to make my first spotting trip up to DFW from Fort Worth! As a coloradan its depressing to see there be no background or mountains so that leads me to my conclusion. No Mountains = Mid → DFW = Mid. Hope you enjoy!
Finally, here’s an American 787 Dreamliner arriving after a very long flight over the Pacfic from Shanghai! Equipment: Camera Body: Canon R6 Lenses: Tamron 70-200 G2 and Sigma 18-35 Editing: Adobe Lightroom Classic and Adobe Photoshop Instagram:
Okay so im just gonna start by saying, you call this airport “mid” yet the first photo you share is of the largest passenger plane in the world which is wild to me. Anyway hope you enjoyed my local!
I’ve been spotting here for 8 years. It has variety, but nothing like LAX or ORD. It is mid. Zero scenery, and besides the occasional heavy, there isn’t much to spot.
The operations are too spread out and the spots are predominately really far from the planes. Normally that results in some spots with a cool backdrop but DFW doesn’t really have that except for the Hyatt where you have to pay and Founders where it’s a back-angle most of the time which is less interesting. Departures from Founders is front angle but since DFW is north of the equator the sun is in the south most of the time so the lighting situation on north flow is weird. Variety is not much, mostly AA. It’s not the worst airport ever but for having 7000 something weekly departures it’s mid.
Also direct N/S runways are bad for lighting. You really want morning or evening engine light which in the northern hemisphere means something between 04/22 and 09/27 generally
Hate to say it but the spotting factor isnt the main thing that makes an airport “mid”. Lets be real the general population does not care about that. Lets just say passenger experience is definitely better here than it is in lets just say ORD or LAX. But anyway leta move on cause your opinion is yours and mine is mine :) 👌
