Device getting extremely hot and battery drains constantly

Hi,

Since the last two versions of IF I’m experiencing a tremendous drop of performance in terms of battery usage and how top end devices are able to perform. I already read a lot of topics in regards to this issue. However I wanted to know if this is considered being improved in new updates?
Im using one of the latest devices on the market and no: I don’t want to lower the graphics while flying ( I fly short to mid-hauls the most) because I enjoy the planes and the scenery while flying). I’m restarting my device before starting any flight. And I shut down all apps in the background despite IF assistant. I’m charging the device but sometimes there’s more power spent on the app and therefore the device can’t be fully recharged. Despite this, the case gets extremely hot. I don’t use any case and I put it on a plane surface (table) before it overheats even more…

Hope this is getting improved in future. Thanks.

Device: iPad Pro 2021
Operating system: latest

This may be something you have to do regardless of whether you want to or not. The scenery really isn’t much to look at.

How can the case get hot if you don’t use a case for your iPad when flying?

I would also put it near a source of cool air (fan, air vent, etc.) to keep it cool, or at least reduce how hot your device gets, on top of putting it on a flat surface.

Sorry, but I don’t want to. And that’s what I’m asking for in this topic. I totally get that older devices struggle with games like this. But come on, this is a top end device and I have to set everything to low?! This is the same like driving a top end car and telling the customer: sorry, you only can speed up to 20miles/h (just an example)
All I want to know is if this is worked on for future updates and not getting even more worse putting more functionalities into the game but forgetting to assure optimization in terms of performance.

Protection case, obviously.

Same here: I need a setup to cool down a device apart of its own cooling functionality… hum.

Take these things you put in your freezer and let your phone on it, works wonderfully!

Thanks, that looks kinda interesting to me. :) and I appreciate your willingness to help. However, I’m not sure if this could also damage the device if these are getting too cold.
However, this brings me again to the OP: is this issue subject to being improved via software / coding?

Hi! here are some tips that may help:

  • I use a small fan for Ipad when starting a flight, Then turn that off while crusining.
  • I set everything to high but then lower them to minimum while cruising.
  • in my experience lowering display brightness is very effective. again in cruise phase of flight I use the minimum display brightness.
  • in cruise phase of flight turn the camera view to somewhere in cockpit (overhead for example). this way your device will not render all the scenery images and it lowers the device workload.
if you are facing this problem frequently, maybe a restart of your Ipad may help. I restart my Ipad before flights specially long hauls to prevent other background apps running simulatnously with IF. I’m using Ipad mini 6 and almost all the time with considering above tips, I can do a ten hour flight withouth recharging :)

I use the same iPad. Everything on highest except i don’t use 60fps. As long as i lower the brightness when not using it, it does not heat up even if I’m charging.

I’m using the same. I keep 30fps. More then sufficient. However I can’t say it’s for every flight. Sometimes it gets extremely hot, regardless of traffic amount or object density. Brightness is an option. I’ll try this.
But is this getting improved with Metal and for future updates?

I can some random time experience a warmer than usual device. 1/10 flights maybe. Seems to be completely random and nothing have shown when we’ve investigated it.

But i can experience the exact same with other apps too. As late as yesterday with my phone and a navigation app.

This isn’t Infinite Flight specific…

Same so I as mentioned above. Brightness is still something I can test out for further flights. All the other workarounds aren’t acceptable for me, because this shouldn’t happen in my opinion and I don’t want to spent money in a fan or something else just for the purpose of cooling a device because of running an app. Haha m wondering if I’m the only one struggling with this. However thanks for the tips.

Hm I’m only experiencing it with some flights and only with IF I’ve to say…

How many other apps do you have running in the foreground for hours? :)

That just lowers the temperature of the metal on device or glass, it doesn’t actually reduce the heat of the battery

@Black_Bird I also suffer from this issue, Battery drain and poor performance from my device even though it was running pretty fine 2-3 updates ago but mainly before before the release of moving objects.

I had all graphics on high, highest fps and anti aliasing on, so I used to get amazing performance from my device with no device heating or lag but I noticed that lately on decent settings with limited fps and anti aliasing off and graphics on High/Medium I get very poor performance and lag…

I use a Samsung Galaxy A71 with 8GB RAM and latest Android software!

I hope thelat Developers can find a solution for this soon!

Normally I’m restarting the device before I begin a longer flight. (2-8hours). And I check, that no other apps are running in the background, causing the device even more to overheat.

That’s what I tried to point out with this topic. I also hope that the developers are aware. I don’t think this is an issue with only a few players being affected. As much as I enjoy any new single object brought to the simulator using more and more polygons for them things have an end. Same goes for the amount of fans placed around the device.

I’m not a dev. and this is how I manage the heat. I think my device is too old so I just go ahead and freeze it

So according to what I’ve understood from this topic is that, me (@IF-EGYPT_YT) & @Black_Bird, we’re requesting that Developers can find a way to reduce the load that comes with every new feature, because just adding features without trying to minimize it’s effect on the performance of our devices wouldn’t be something we’d like to see. So I hope this message could reach the developers that work in that field to improve how our devices handle the new features that we’ve seen lately, Moving objects, 3D terminals etc… I’m very sure that developers already work on that, but we just wanted to point out that it affects us and for sure affects other users.

Perfectly put together. Thx a lot. That’s what I wanted to ask/address. I don’t want to create discontent. I just wanted to ask if devs are aware and if a plan exist to improve the game performance wise, that’s all :).

You would experience this with graphics set to “low” as well. As i said, this isn’t specific to Infinite Flight.
