Device Compatibility Thread

This thread is moderator approved

Welcome to the Community Built List of Global Compatible Devices

2017-best-phones-1

Our Objective.

The purpose of this thread is to have a wiki where people can submit what device they use, what quality they use, and how well it runs, so that’s over time we can build up a list of compatible devices, and how well those devices work on what settings. So if anyone asks about if there device is supported or if a certain device works well with Infinite Flight, we can direct them to this list!

As many members looking at this thread are considering a new device, it is important that we provide clean and accurate information to provide a helpful oversight of what devices are on offer.
This is the rewritten Device compatibility list.

Formatting

This thread has been made a wiki so that you guys can add your devices to the list.
However, please do not edit devices that have already been added, and do not edit the general thread format

Do Not Alter Any Other Part Of The Thread

When Adding a device to the list, please use the below format for both Android and iOS devices. Please be as honest as possible about your device performance; it’s useful for members trying to select a new device.
If you wish to add your opinion on why you like the device, feel free to do so in notes, but again, please be as honest as possible.

Formatting Examples

Device: Google Pixel/ iPhone 7
OS: Android 8.0/ iOS 11.2.1
Rendering Quality: High// High
Rendering Resolution: High// High
Texture quality: High// High
Anti-Aliasing: On// On
Limit framerate: Off// On
Airplane count: Very High// High
GeekBench Scores: 1918, 6316// 3379, 5495
Notes: One of the most powerful phones, even in 2018. Shows its age at a busy airport, otherwise runs perfecly// Occasionally when airport is busy you will have to turn off Anti-Aliasing, but it runs pretty well.

Please note that GeekBench scores are respective to each device. A low score does not suggest that a device is bad. This shows you how each respective device handles it’s own multi core performance.

Adding Your Device

Adding your Device

Regulars, when adding to this list please use ‘Hide Details’ so this post isn’t a giant flood of text. If you are not adding to this and are just posting on the thread then there is no need as a Regular will do it for you.

If you have any issues or questions about a device, it’s best to contact the user that posted the specifications. Their names are located next to the Device name.

If your device is already listed above, feel free to give your interpretation of its performance. The more data we can get on a specific device, the more reliable. Please note when adding devices, general discussion is allowed, however debating over Android/ iOS and performance can be done via a PM.

Device Compatibility List:

High Performance Phones
The phones featured in this part are Android Greats, the most powerful phones under this operating system

Google Pixel 2XL - @Dan_77

Google Pixel 2XL

OS: Android 9.1 (Developer Preview)
Rendering Quality: High
Rendering Resolution: High
Texture quality: High
Anti-aliasing: ON
Limit Frame Rate: OFF
GeekBench Scores: 1918 / 6316
Note: Being (one of) the most powerful phone(s) on the market… You’d expect some amazing results from the Pixel. It does not disappoint. Is stupidly powerful, responsive and a beautiful image. Will heat a little if charging (on a fast charger) whilst flying

Google Pixel 3 - @Igamer

Google Pixel 3

OS: Android 9.0
Rendering Quality: High
Rendering Resolution: High
Texture Quality: High
Anti-Aliasing: On
Limit Framerate: Off (I keep it on, its really personal preference, should be fine if its off)
Airplane Count: Very High
GeekBench Scores: 2395, 8344
Notes: A very powerful phone that runs Infinite Flight extremely well, I reckon its one of the best phones to play Infinite Flight on. In the top right and left corners there is a very very slight cutoff from some text, but it does not affect anything. (Maybe your OCD…)

Samsing Galaxy Note 9 - @Nichalas_Petranek

Samsung Galaxy Note 9

OS: Android 8.1
Rendering Quality: High
Rendering Resolution: High
Texture quality: High
Anti-Aliasing: On
Limit framerate: Off
Airplane count: Very High
GeekBench Scores: 2377/ 8319
Notes: Runs flawlessly and looks absolutely stunning. The only thing I don’t like right now is that the app doesn’t use the entire screen like other phones yet. I’m sure it will be changed in due time.

OnePlus 6T - @A-FitzGerald

maxresdefault

OnePlus 6T

OS : Android 9.0
Rendering Quality : High
Rendering Resolution : High
Texture quality : High
Anti-aliasing : ON
Limit Frame Rate : OFF
Airplane Count : Very High
GeekBench Scores : 2308 / 8951
Note : The best smartphone of 2018 you can get for less than 600$ brand new. It offers one of the best experience of Android you can have with Oxygen OS. There are no fancy, gimmicky, useless features causing your phone to be more prone to lag (looking at you Samsung). Lag? Pfff, this word will be erased from your vocabulary with this device even at the busiest airports with the highest settings

OnePlus 6 - @david_hartono_S

0022080_oneplus-6-latest-model-by-oneplus-ready-stock_600

OnePlus 6

OS: Android 8.1.0
Rendering Quality: High
Rendering Resolution: High
Texture quality: High
Anti-Aliasing: On
Limit framerate: On
Airplane count: High
GeekBench Scores: 2474/9054
Notes: One of the most powerful phones on sale, a near stock android experience with snappy and responsive controls make this a very enjoyable device to fly on

Samsung Galaxy S8 - @ServerGhost

Samsung Galaxy S8

Operating System: Android 8.0
Rendering Quality: High
Rendering Resolution: High
Texture quality: High
Anti-Aliasing: On
Limit framerate: Off
Airplane count: Very High
Low-power mode: Off
Geek bench score: - 1951 / 6428
Notes: no issues with lag you might have a small latency in KLAX or KJFK but other than that its smooth. Screen brightness sometimes all the way up, dont see an issue with performance even though the phone is rendering high resolution.

Samsung Galaxy S8+ - @ThomasR

14933718879226

Samsung Galaxy S8+

OS: Android 7.0
Rendering Quality: High
Rendering Resolution: High
Texture Quality: High
Anti-Aliasing: On
Limit frame rate: On
GeekBench scores: 1782/ 6029
Notes: Runs very well on high quality settings. If the airport is busy you may sometimes need to turn off anti-aliasing to reduce some lag. Overall you will receive a high quality experience from this device.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 - @Jeno_Farkas

0e9f8c88e329d0da005958b0de11e92c3e144291

Samsung Galaxy Note 8

OS: Android 7.1.1
Rendering Quality: High
Rendering Resolution: High
Texture quality: High
Anti-aliasing: ON
Limit Frame Rate: OFF
GeekBench Scores: 1984 / 6116
Note: With these settings Infinite Flight looks stunning on the Note 8’s huge screen. Worth to mention that with the Frame Limiter set to Off, the phone tends to push itself to the limits no matter how crowded the airport is nearby, which can make it really hot, especially when the phone is in Optimised performance mode, which can later cause some lag.

Samsung Galaxy S9 - @OC212 & @ServerGhost

Samsung Galaxy S9

OS: Android 8.0
Rendering Quality: High
Rendering Resolution: High
Texture quality: High
Anti-Aliasing: On
Limit framerate: Off
Aircraft Count: High
GeekBench Scores: 3670/ 9526
Notes: The S9 is Samsung’s 2018 flagship, however is a minimalist upgrade of the S8. It will throttle aggressively if not handled correctly

Sony Xperia XZ Premium - @RealAviation1974

Sony Xperia XZ Premium (US Version)

OS: Android 7.1.2
Rendering Quality: High
Rendering Resolution: High
Texture quality: High
Anti-Aliasing: On
Limit framerate: Off
Aircraft Count: High
GeekBench Scores: 1943 / 5824
Notes: With a 4K screen and the price of £500, it’s highly recommended. No restarts required before running, just an amazing device.

Sony XZ1 Compact - @Captain_Ed

Sony XZ1 Compact

OS: Android 8.0 (will be receiving Android 9 Pie update)
Rendering Quality: High
Rendering Resolution: High
Texture quality: High
Anti-Aliasing: On
Limit framerate: On (runs fine although a little hot off)
Airplane count: Very High
GeekBench Scores: 1927, 6551
Notes : This is the smaller version of Sony’s 2017 flagship, the XZ1. This phone is a great all-rounder for people who want a small device, with a 4.6" screen, that still has flagship-grade specs (albeit from 2017, with a Snapdragon 835, which is still much powerful enough). Runs Infinite Flight perfectly and smoothly in the busiest of airports without requiring a restart prior to playing, glitches are a rarity - only one I’ve noticed is a black bar replacing the throttle for a split second. It heats up while running IF and charging. The design might be a little “blocky” for some people, but it is comfortable to hold, has great battery life and the screen has decent clarity/PPI. It runs Sony’s Xperia Home, which is very close to stock Android with a few added customisations. Can be found for around US$370, £300 or AU$500. If the design or performance is an issue, look out for deals on this year’s XZ2 Compact with a 5" screen.

Top notch Medium contenders
The devices that are powerful, for a considerably lower price, new or 2nd hand.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge - @MartyFlies

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

OS: Android 7.0
Rendering Quality: High
Rendering Resolution: High
Texture quality: High
Anti-Aliasing: On
Limit framerate: Off
GeekBench score: 1516 / 4055
Notes: Runs IF without problems on highest settings, though on busy airports it can lag and I have to turn off anti-aliasing. At 5,5 inch the screen is good for traveling, but when you’re at home it feels too small and a tablet would be a better option. Can be repurchased for a reasonable price.

Sony Xperia Z5 - @Dan_77

Xperia-Z5

Sony Xperia Z5

OS: Android 7.1.1
Rendering Quality: Medium
Rendering Resolution: High
Texture Quality: High
Anti- Aliasing: On
Limit Frame Rate: On
GeekBench Scores: 1258 / 3979
Notes: A beautiful display, the Z5 can be picked up in the 32gb variant for under £150. Has a powerful Snapdragon chip and plenty of ram. Is worth noting that the device does struggle around a busy airport (it’s about 3yrs old) and has some overheating issues.

Vivo V3 - @George

Vivo V3

OS: Android 5.1.1
Rendering Quality: High
Rendering Resolution: Medium
Texture Quality: High
Anti-Aliasing: On
Limit Frame Rate: On
Airplane Count: Medium
GeekBench Scores: 1515 / 4625
Notes: It may lag when the airport is busy (If Anti Aliasing is on). But other than that, it works perfectly to me ;)

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus - @Asdew

redi-5_1824

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus

OS: Android 7.1.2 (MIUI 9.5.12.0)
Rendering Quality: Low
Rendering Resolution: Low
Texture quality: Low
Anti-Aliasing: Off
Limit framerate: On
Airplane count: Low
GeekBench Scores: 859 / 3892
Notes: 32 GB / 3 GB version. Runs at around 20 FPS with medium traffic, goes to 5-10 with heavy traffic. Smooth while cruising.

Asus Zenfone 4 - @Bonnie_TheBunny870

16191735184463

Zenfone 4

OS: Android 8.0
Rendering Quality: High
Rendering Resolution: Low
Texture quality: High
Anti-Aliasing: On
Limit framerate: On
Airplane count: Very High
Notes: Its a great device for Infinite Flight, it is powerful enough to fly in busy airports (sometimes it lags a bit, so I turn off anti-aliasing).

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact - @Dan_77

xperia-z3

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact

OS: Android 6.1.1
Rendering Quality: Medium
Rendering Resolution: Medium
Texture Quality: High
Anti- Aliasing: On
Limit Frame rate: On
Airplane Count: High
GeekBench Scores: 977 / 2569
Notes: The Xperia z3 handles IF surprisingly well. Lowering the quality is difficult to notice due to the tiny screen. An absolute powerhouse, but at a busy airport, the old GPU begins to struggle. Surprisingly good battery life too, and can be bought really cheap.

Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) - @ItzEhs

Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017)

OS: Android 7.0
Rendering Quality: Medium
Rendering Resolution: Medium
Texture quality: Medium
Anti-Aliasing: Off

Rendering Quality: High
Rendering Resolution: High
Texture quality: High
Anti-aliasing: ON
Limit Frame Rate: OFF
Aircraft Count: very high
GeekBench Scores: 1341 / 3240
Note: A beautiful device running Nvidia Hardware, clean and updated android, plus specs that shadow any iPad. Be mindful of battery life. Otherwise, perfect

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 - @PlaneCrazy

3-SM-T820NZKAXAR

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 (2017)

OS: Android 8.1
Rendering Quality: High
Rendering Resolution: High
Texture quality: High
Anti-Aliasing: On
Limit frame rate: Off
Airplane Count: High
GeekBench Scores: 1552 / 4108
Notes: Powerful device with a beautiful screen. Runs IF perfectly. It’s basically a galaxy S7. A very big S7…

Kindle Fire HD6 😉 - @Dan_77

r_437_amazon_kindle_fire_hd_6-colors

Amazon Kindle Fire HD6 (4th Generation)

OS: Amazon Android 5.1.6
Rendering Quality: Medium
Rendering Resolution: Medium
Texture Quality: High
Anti- Aliasing: On
Limit Frame rate: Off
GeekBench scores: 764 / 1398
Notes: FDS has officially ended support for Amazon and it’s kindle Fire range. However 😏 there is a loophole that allows the kindle access to IF. For such an old device, IF runs surprisingly smooth. Takes a while to load up and will lag at a busy airport, but can handle max graphics 😂

Asus Zenpad 3S 10 - @chris_wing

asus_zenpad_3s_10-720x720

ASUS Zenpad 3S 10 (Z500M)

OS: Android 7.0
Rendering Quality: High
Rendering Resolution: High
Texture quality: High
Anti-Aliasing: Off
Limit framerate: Off
Airplane count: Very High
GeekBench Scores: 1558 / 3709
Notes: Occasionally when an airport is busy you will have to turn the graphics to medium, but it runs great. It can get very hot so keep the brightness down!

Huawei MediaPad T3 10 - @SpeedPlayz

image

Huawei MediaPad T3 10

Device : Huawei MediaPad T3 10
OS : Android 7.0
Rendering Quality : Low

Texture quality : Medium (works fine on high, I turn it down to reduce lag)
Anti-Aliasing : On (Turn off at busy airports)
Limit framerate : On
Airplane count : Medium
GeekBench Scores : 661,1814
Notes : This is not the best device to buy if you are looking for fast, max settings performance. If you are looking for a cheap and reliable tablet and you are a person that likes to fly in and out of not busy airports, this is the appropriate device (unless you are a person that likes max graphics, then you probably won’t be too happy with it…) for you

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7 - @Flying_Ryan

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7

GeekBench Scores: 5030, 18000
Notes: Fantastic device! I would like to add that I do personally have limit frame rate on just to conserve the battery life but it’s certainly not needed with this device. Don’t be mistaken in thinking this is the best device for IF though, the lesser models such as the iPad 2018 run IF equally aswell. Message me with any questions you have.

iPad 9.7 (2018) - @Lord_Huhn

iPad 6.Generation (2018) 9.7

GeekBench Scores 1365 / 2318
Notes This is my second phone while this device is able to run IF on high graphics i recommend you lower on longer flights or just lower at cruise with its 1 gigabyte of ram this device is not as powerful as some newer devices you will notice this on longhaul flights the device will become slower so i recommend you restart your device close all background apps enable low power mode and lower brightness also if you are going into busy airports lower your graphics to the lowest and lower your airplane count :)

Device advice:
For most Android devices, clearing the ram is easy, and a device restart it always recommend.
For iPads and iPhones, the same is also advised. Be warned that iPads in particular heat up considerably so look at cooling options before beginning a long flight

The old thread was closed and I have therefore made a new one.

Also, in the time that the old thread existed, it had been viewed 1500 times, and had been linked in several support topics for users. A massive thank you to everyone that has trusted in myself (and predominantly @Starley) to help choose your new device, and also a thanks to all of its contributors, it really means a lot ✋

Made it a Wiki too. Thanks for putting this together everyone. Cheers, Levet

Sorry for the late reply, if you have a device result that is different from one already listed, post it in the thread and I’ll make adjustments accordingly, and also provide credit.

Also just a quick note on this.
Amazon Fire Tablets are no longer officially supported by IF and FDS, which is why I haven’t added them to the list.
If your fire tablet, however has access to the Google Play Store (PM me for any queries on this), you can download the full version of IF Global for the standard Price, and it works through a Google Play subscription as opposed to an Amazon one.

Please also note that the Fire HD7 is not supported, and will download the Pre Global version of IF.

Compatible Fire Tablets

•Fire HD6
•Fire HD8
•Fire HD9
•Fire HD10

As fire tablets run Android, apps can be sideloaded and therefore unlocks a mass of opportunity.
In regards to the running performance, I can only confirm the HD6 as being able to run at the highest settings, however looking at the specifications, the newer tablets shouldn’t have much issue running.

The problem with putting the OS is that the OS listed may be outdated even if the device supports the latest OS.
For example, the iPad Pro 12.9 in has the OS listed as iOS 11.3, but it runs the latest version which is 11.4.
Also, does anyone have a 2nd gen? The one listed is the first gen.

EDIT 1.0

•Changed Google Pixel 2XL OS to Android 9, this is due to my device running an advanced developer preview of Android P
•OnePlus 6 added to Android selection.

I plan to make these updates as regular as possible to keep up with the ever shifting mobile device market, and also to accommodate for users wanting to add their devices.

Please any ideas on the essential phone?

I really need a new device! $130 is the max I want to spend. Hoping to get a device that can run perfectly fine with:

Rendering Quality: High
Rendering Resolution: High
Texture quality: High
Anti-Aliasing: On

Would like a personal suggestion…any ideas?

Hello dude,
For that price range, you’re seriously going to struggle to get a brand new device with those kind of performance specs…
Are you willing to spend more at all, or are you happy to invest in a second hand device?

Is it a difference, if
I have the Samsung galaxy tab s3 on android 8.0 and the version of the current tab s3 above is 7.1?

If you have nothing to add and the settings remain the same, then it’s not a big difference.

Android 8 (Oreo) did bring the biggest boost in performance since android 6 (Marshmallow) however because your device itself is unchanged, you wouldn’t notice much of a different. 7-8 wouldn’t have a massive performance difference as Google doesn’t slow down it’s devices cough
