Today I was flying on the expert server when I saw on the map that somebody was on final for a class delta airport in a Boeing 787-10. I thought to myself “poor guy.” My request is to add a warning or message when you log your flight plan if the destination airport is too small for the aircraft you are flying in. Example: If I’m flying in an A380 and I log a flight plan into a Class Delta, it would say: “Warning: Destination airport it too small for aircraft. Landing there will result in a violation.” (This obviously doesn’t count for casual server and solo) Thoughts?
It says current airplane restricted if you tap the airport on the map…
I realize that but some users do not so they are not aware.
Good idea! But imho, if someone don’t set FPL to their destination airport, they could land on a smaller airport below the required class.
It would be good if the warning appears when someone already enters the ILS/GPS glideslope (The red/white one) or locked their APPR to their desired glideslope.
Sometimes, People don’t see log while making their FPLs. That’s the problem actually
Why would you, or anyone for that matter, fly an A380 into a class delta airport in the first place?
This sounds like a great idea. A surprising anount of people lack the understanding that an aircraft can be too big for an airport.
You can’t make the system account for everything at some point people need to use some common sense.
Yes, I understand that but if we don’t need these systems then we shouldn’t have auotpilot and LNAV
Those both exist in RL what you’re talking about does not.
I know it’s unrealistic. But, Infinite Flight is also unrealistic with the fact that you can land an airplane at an airport class below the minimum that it can in real life. Example: a 747 can only land at class bravos, but in the sim, you can land it at a class delta
Who told you that? Class doesn’t mean anything to what can, and can’t land somewhere.
ok all I’m trying to say that this is an idea that could be implemented in the future, for some users do not know all the features within the simulator
I get that but at some point you have to cut the umbilical cord.
Peanut pilots…who else?
What if… You have to divert because you don’t have enough fuel? (Because global has fuel burn)
Then you divert to somewhere acceptable, and learn how to flight plan pretty simple.
You obviously haven’t seen 70% of the people on TS1 ;)
This might come across as harsh, but even on TS1 people should be aware of what they are flying and the takeoff and landing distances required versus the associated runway declared distances. The aircraft can also be restricted for not having taxiways that can accommodate the aircraft. I’m not sure how IF classifies an airport as being too small or not. I’m guessing it’s having a suitable runway or not but someone feel free to confirm or deny that.
The runway lengths are available in game and the actual runway declared distances (TORA, TODA, ASDA and LDA) are readily available across the internet. As a rough guide, an A388 at maximum takeoff and landing weights needs about 9,800ft for takeoff, and 6,600ft for landing. Again, that’s a rough guide. Don’t hang me for those numbers. They should be longer than what you need in IF anyway because of built-in safety in those numbers for scenarios we can’t have in IF yet.
@Liftoff And if you need to divert, pick an alternate airport that can accommodate you. That’s what the alternate fuel is for.
Edit: Kevin said the same thing. Sorry!
You land at an airport big enough to hold the one you currently are flying. That’s what the fuel reserve is for.
