im back at JFK once more to see some 4L departures in this quick half hour spotting session! unfortunately this session was after a 5:30 AM swim practice, so my hands were shaky and I was hungry. in terms of the spot itself? I kept getting bitten by bugs (never going there again), and there were tons of white fluffy things floating in the sky. it was also quite hazy. dunno why.
thanks for viewing my spotting topic of my shots from JFK! I wish I could upload more than 10, I have a bunch more cool photos I want to share. oh well…
like last topic I made, please, please comment any critical feedback for me to implement! I’m still pretty new to spotting with an actual camera (in manual mode), so this feedback is crucial for me to improve for next time!
Your crops are fine, the only ones that are technically wrong are the AA Max, the China Airlines, and the Atlas (they’re too low). In terms of feedback I would say this is just kind of an awkward angle to shoot from but you’re not doing anything wrong.
thanks a lot! I’ll keep the whole “too low in frame” thing in mind for next time.
and as for the location itself I agree it’s pretty awkward because it’s a soccer pitch and to be completely honest I don’t think I would be able to find any other spotting location (that I won’t get run over by a huge F150 yea).
No complaints here! Although getting the NYC skyline would make for a nice backdrop although i’m not sure how applicable that is, I’ve never spotted at JFK.
thank you! winds that day were primarily pointing towards JFK using runway 4 arrivals and departures, so if I did go to see arrivals at Bayswater Point State Park, the skyline shot is totally doable! here’s an example from late May:
the conditions here kinda weren’t the best, backlitish, heat hazy and I only brought binoculars ) but yeah this is what a lineup for departure would look like!
