MD-90 is much longer than a 717 lol and different engines

The MD80/90 also have different wings, the 717 reverted back to the older DC-9-50 and earlier wing.

They could just make the 717 longer, add ground effect and a few liveries, that’d be good enough for now…

No, the B717 has different engines, and is much shorter. Plus most 717’s have newer glass cockpits.
