I don’t understand why Bombardier made the C series it just makes a higher chance of them going bankrupt (again) it’s just a copy of the 737 or the E175

I’m very happy about this. The C series is a little masterpiece of engineering and it’s nice a prime airline such as Delta has ordered a decent chunk.

I hope now the other airlines interested will place orders, and also that Bombardier stops selling them as cheap as they have been - it’s worth more than the quite frankly humiliating prices they have been offering.

Actually the whole Airbus A320neo, Boeing 737MAX, and Embraer E-2 all started because of the CSeries. The CSeries came before all this.

Yes that is true, and I like it!

Ok now I get it but we have had the 737 sence the 60s

The CSeries is completely new and different just like the A320 differs from the B737

Great to see such a giant customer for the CSeries, wonderful plane that doesn’t get enough attention.

Bombardier is amazing!

Wonderful, a great boost as this will bring in a significant chunk of cash in the form of deposits to keep the C-Series going.

“Based on list prices, the firm order is worth $5.6 billion (U.S.), although analysts have speculated that Bombardier is offering Delta a steep discount, probably more than half off.” How are they making money from this???

Good question but, Bombardier needs this order no matter the price. They already got an order from Air Canada earlier this year!

Good question. It could be they are selling the frames at, or close to the “cost” price. Zero profit.

However this can work ok out in certain circumstances, as airlines buy training, support and spares from the manufacturer. Over the course of a decade or two this can work out as big $$$$ income. Delta tend to keep their aircraft for a long time.

And it can also be considered worthwhile selling at zero profit just to get the order of a prime airline or two.

This will not have gone unnoticed by other airlines, who may see Delta’s order as a vote of confidence in the plane they were unsure of, and bring them off the sidelines and encourage orders.

This order also gives Delta a first mover advantage. By having the most competitive and efficient aircraft in the 100-130 seat range first, they can undercut their rivals.
Their rivals will need to respond or get elbowed out of the market.

Basically this is encouraging others to buy the CSeries planes.
