Looks like @DeerCrusher did it again! An Embraer ERJ145 flying for American Airlines regional airline Piedmont airlines hit a buck while taking off from Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
While very rare for this to happen this is the second time an AA affiliated Regional Carrier flight has hit a deer in the last few years.
I guess I’d expect this to happen every once-in-a-while in the US, especially at regional airports (which makes it more likely that it’s located in a smaller town) surrounded by wildlife.
But anyway…
DeerCrusher should be GROUNDED, REMOVE HIS LICENSE
I don’t get how a deer even manages to get past fencing and everything, not be noticed, then crosses a runway that just so happens, a plane is taking off from. It just shocks me
You’d be amazed how powerful, agile and quick deer actually are. I’m not surprised at all since deer are in the rut this time of year and they change up their rituals and habits.
@Andre_S was the one who messaged me yesterday afternoon shortly after this had happened with the news article. There was a slight bet that I’d be tagged a bunch of times; which turned out to be proven. 😂 But given that this aircraft was operated by Piedmont, and not the airline I’m employed for, I was not on or near this aircraft at the time.
But in all seriousness, what do you guys think should be imposed to prevent such wildlife breaching the airport property? The article stated that the deer jumped over the fence. Should a higher fence be installed? Barbed wire fences? Or what other creative measures could you come up with that would prevent future incidents like this? Certainly something to think about.
