Dear Community - A Few Words

Dear Community,

Number 6. What began as a spontaneous Christmas post in 2018 has evolved into a series that has now spanned more than half a decade. In 2018, it was just a few simple thoughts put into words; 2019 was a retrospective of the past decade; 2020 and 2021 reflected on two years marked by COVID-19; and 2022 was a post about us as humans and how we as individuals can make the world a little bit better every day. Today, a few days before Christmas 2023, I want to write about…

Honestly, this year I have no Idea what to write about. It has been a strange year for me that made me focus on too many things at once - which isn’t such a good idea because you tend to loose focus of everything when trying to focus on too many things. One of the many thing I lost focus of this year was Infinite Flight, as is evidently shown by my mere four online flights I managed to accomplish this year (two of which in December), or my relatively low activity here on the IFC. I even had to look up Approach procedures in the User Guide on my last flight, which felt a bit strange after so many years of virtual flying. I hope to be able to change this in 2024 and become more involved again.

This year, I graduated with a degree which, amongst other things, included wonderful subject of “Corporate Communications”. In corporate communications, there exists a principle stating that if one has nothing to communicate, ideally, one should not communicate at all. I’m going to adhere to this principle this year - and so, I will try keep this post (for my standards) relatively brief.

Many of you have achieved a lot this year. I think of @cleipelt who got his CPL this year. I think of @ybtl.aviation who completed his first Solo flight this year. I think of @Moritz, who can now proudly call himself an Apron Controller at EDDM. I think of @Adventures, who flew an IFR cross country flight for the first time this year. And I think of the many other successes that have been shared in the Infinite Flight Community across multiple platforms. It is truly fantastic to see all these posts from users, some of whom have been part of this community for many years. Congratulations to all of you on your achievements this year. I’m more than confident that we will see many more such successes in the coming years and I’m looking forward to reading about them here on the IFC.

Now, it’s also possible that some of you feel like you’re looking back on a year that wasn’t very successful for you. And that’s okay too. Sometimes we’re not as successful as we wanted to be, sometimes we fail. That’s normal. The important thing is to keep trying and to keep going. I read a sentence the other day that felt like it could’ve come straight out of an entrepreneur’s LinkedIn-post bingo card, but it does hold some truth to it: Every setback can be a setup for a comeback. It’s an opportunity to learn. You got this, and maybe the new year 2024 will bring another chance with new strength and motivation for renewal.

All that’s left to say now: I wish all of you a wonderful last few days of 2023 and best of luck for 2024, a lot of joy, motivation, strength, and everything else you might wish for or need. I don’t know if there will be another one of these posts next year. All things must come to an end one day. If there will be something to write about, I will. But if there isn’t, maybe someone else will take my spot.

For now, as always: Take care of yourself, take care of each other. Stay safe, happy holidays, and most importantly: Thank you.

Excellent work Marc. This is a really good post that you have created. I have had my ups and downs this year such as being able to travel for work then finding out you are going to a country where everyone is fleeing. This close community of aviation lovers as had many ups and downs and challenges in their lives, Many people may look over your shoulder and wonder why you are playing a game ( what it looks like to them ) but to us this is our passion and our hobbies. We understand each other, we support each other and we make close friends that we can call on in a time of need. We are always learning, always growing, and always developing as we hang out here with our friends.

Happy holidays infinite flight community.

I appreciate the minor shoutout here! I ended up getting my Instrument Rating a few months after this Cross Country! I’m moving towards getting my Commercial Pilot’s License in the next month or so. I will be making a fun little topic about that as well! Hope you had a good year, here’s to 2024!

I can relate, been dealing with some of my own stuff this year and have had very little time to focus on myself and the things I want to accomplish. I haven’t consistently played Infinite Flight since the beginning of this year but I want to continue. Thanks for the motivational message, and like you said, my goal is to keep going and keep trying.
