Now is there a reason why the NOTAM is here even though i can spawn at LGA with the DC10. DC10’s did fly at LGA. So i wouldn’t see a problem here.
And that’s the problem- it’s a thing of the past, safety has changed, and this is the new rule on infinite flight, at an attempt to follow realism. Of course you alwyas have training server if you want to go retro. Honestly the plane isn’t too big though, so I’m pretty sure you won’t get in trouble if you went in it anyway.
The 757 is smaller but in the same Aircraft Code (D) hence the NOTAM. Same applies for 748/A380 where both are F but some airports cannot accept the latter.
There was a recent thread about the same topic. The consensus everyone came to is that the NOTAM stating that aircraft larger than, I believe, the 757 are not allowed to land at KLGA is valid. Although aircraft in the past have operated there, it is not realistic or acceptable to allow a DC-10 to operate out of KLGA. However, there is no such restriction on the casual server, so if this route is important to you, feel free to do it on a different server where the NOTAM is not in effect.
Although larger aircraft are technically permitted at LGA irl, no one operates them there but if they did utilize the option to, there are significant operational restrictions that ATC in IF simply cannot implement.
Yes, that’s very understandable. My home airport, KBUR, has a longest runway of 6,898 feet, and the largest aircraft I’ve seen operate there are the DC-8, C-17, and C-5. LaGuardia’s longest runway, 22, is 7,003 feet, so larger aircraft are definitely capable of flying into such airports. However, it’s just not feasible on the expert server due to realistic operational constraints.
Also this restriction is also inplace due to how close JFK and EWR are to LGA. So because LGA is in the middle. This makes it hard to operate big planes into LGA due to how the the ATC vectoring works in the New York FIR. Filter out LGA, EWR, TEB, JFK in the airport options on flight radar 24 and you will see what i mean.
As a New Yorker, I disagree- in the real world we have a systematic and layered way of fitting everyone in perfectly. As an infinite flight player, I agree. People don’t know what they’re doing relative to real world procedures when they fly into NYC usually, and that is when problems come up regarding the airports proximity.
Have you ever heard of wake turbulence? That is also probably a factor as well because near LGA, there are some pretty tall buildings near the airport. This is probably another factor that plays into effect. Let’s not also forget about 9/11/2001 and the twin towers. That also plays an effect into the decision making of this NOTAM. If you look at JFK, EWR and TEB there aren’t a whole lot of tall buildings near by the airport. Also the runways at LGA maybe long enough but don’t believe they are wide enough for large widebodies. To get around the tall buildings persision is a key factor you can easily make tighter and quicker adjustments with planes like the ERJ-175 but it becomes harder with biger planes.
“If you can’t beat em, join em”. Once again, not an issue. Heavier planes and or planes during poor weather on downwind for 22 will not fly next to the buildings, but directly over them. 9/11 was a terrorist attack, heavy planes deliberately crashed. As long as these aircraft maintain their altitude of usually 4000 feet, they’re completely safe. Wake turb dissipates after only a few minutes also.
I even flew this once when there where low clouds in the area- a nice safe couple thousand over the buildings followed by a decent once far away
yes it actually did happen once! the thing is that LGA wouldn’t be able to accommodate the wingspan of many heavy aircraft, such as the A330, or the 787. but yeah the DC-10, MD-11, 757, 767, all those heavies can and have landed at LGA before.
(+ being real with you, it wouldn’t be economical at all, eh? there are 2 other airports that heavies would be able to accommodate at probably a lower cost)
I personally never understood these approaches into 22… some are going along the Hudson, some are like this, straight along Manhattan, and some go over Brooklyn and Queens, turn over Flushing, and make a 180. what’s the difference with all these procedures? I’ve seen these approaches under the same weather and wind, couldn’t be that…
This went from talking about how and what about DC10’s at LGA to something else
Amount of traffic in the Hudson River exclusion effects it too - if you all want to continue let’s talk over pm lol 😂
