DC-10s visit Rochester [and an A300]

With holiday season in full swing, cargo airlines are ramping up flights to keep up with demand. FedEx has increased frequency to Rochester and has added new flights. They’ve also been kind enough to send us a couple daily DC-10s. Before this, I’ve been told they haven’t visited here in three years.

Night Arrival

N562FE pulling into the FedEx ramp after arriving around 9:15 PM. Sadly, I can’t get a long exposure off on arrivals so this will have to do. Topaz is a god-tier software.

f/4.5 1/15 ISO5000 @ 100 mm

Morning Departure

N562FE (again, but a few days later) full send from Runway 22 around 9:00 AM. Almost missed this one as he pushed 15 minutes earlier than expected. I’m quite certain this is the sharpest shot to ever come out of my lens at 400 mm, so that’s cool too.

A300-600

N732FD pushed back for departure to Memphis. Peep that nose wheel.

Don’t bully me for ISO500 - it was already pushed by the time I got there and I didn’t want to risk it moving.

Although sometimes it puts a ton of patches in the sky for no reason but that’s the price you pay for letting a computer do God’s work I guess

I saw the DC-10 parked at the FedEx gate a few weeks back. I haven’t seen them before, but I didn’t realize they hadn’t been to ROC in three years!

Thanks Cameron! I find that LR’s noise reduction works better than Topaz on sky so you can do this thing where you apply a messy-ish mask before Topaz-ing and then just manually noise reduce the sky. Or just make the sky really dark, which is what I ended up doing.

I’m sure he would like FedEx in general with all the classics they’ve got.

Thanks Tom! That one was a one-off for crew training. I guess it was to prepare the crew here for this wave they’re sending now. I was airside for that one but unfortunately I’m not allowed to share those photos.
