Cruising winds

How do you guys deal with cruising winds?

I usually keep going with the climb until I stall because of the 65 kt tail wind, then I find a good altitude to sub as my cruising

Just use vs and lock it to your desired coimb rate

A constant tail wind has no effect on stall speed or any other aspect of flight physics (except your ground speed). So, fly and climb as if you had no wind.

When taking off and landing, of course, it does matter.

But once in the air, you drift in sync with the block of air you are in, which is moving with the wind. Within that moving block you have zero relative wind forces on your aircraft.

So when you are climbing you want to set autopilot vertical speed to about 2500-3000 fpm until you get to 30,000 ft, then you need to decrease the vs to about 1500-2000 depending on winds as of which you said you would stall due to a tailwind. This should not make your plane stall as said above.

And an ideal cruising altitude for wide bodies is around 36,000-40,000 ft. I recommend using simbrief to generate the flight plan and altitude. cruise speed should be Mach 0.84-0.85 for wide bodies except for the a330 (Mach 0.8) and 0.78 for narrow bodies.

Hi, when considering steady winds, this is not true, as far as “depending on winds”. :

Steady winds have no influence on the issue of climb rate adjustment (unless considering climb angle relative to the ground)

The reason you need to climb slower at higher altitude is because there is a lot less excess power at higher altitude. Steady atmosphere has no effect whatsoever on aircraft performance. It is, for all practical purpose, an inertial frame.
