If you are tuned into a VOR frequency, you can use the course needle to set the course you wish to track to or from the station.
Fly it like a localizer, if your aircraft is to the left of course, the needle will deflect to the right and if you’re to the right of course, the needle will deflect to the left. You are on course if the needle is lined up in the center.
A CRS course needle essentially determines an aircraft’s lateral position in relation to it’s course.
