Currently flying YSSY-YPPH in a Qantas 767 who else is experiencing these harsh winds . The wind is starting to calm down a bit but I was getting some 125 kts winds a few minutes back. It’s surely a great time to practice some crosswind landings. Also by the way does anyone know if Sydney is experiencing any storms currently ?
I had to change a pair of underwear just landed after one go around on Runway to 25
What probably has happened is that you descended quick, and the weather didn’t update.
EDIT: WInds are strong, just not 125 kts strong
Yes, Sydney is experiencing heavy winds and a thick dust storm. See below:
the dust storm abated slightly earlier but it looks like it’ll pick up later on
am stuck in it rn :)
winds are very strong here irl too
Wow stay safe over there
thanks :) it’s abated slightly really
2009 was much worse
The whole east coast of Australia is getting hit by storms. Just about to go to Brisbane Airport my self to do some cross wind landing spotting. Pumped!
Wasn’t that when there was a big bush fire, I remember because the whole of Sydney was covered in smoke and I had to stay indoors for a few days because of my ridiculously bad asthma.
if sky turns red I’ll take photos
nope, that was a dust storm with the dust from central Australia. The bushfire I believe was 2013 when Blue Mountains were on fire
Oh yes I remember now, it was quite some time ago eh?
ye, the last really big fire was in '94 which nearly cut us off :) wasn’t born back then. Otherwise it was probably just a back burning operation or something, I smell a lot of embers around here
Here are 2 shots I got of the dust storm we got here in Mildura.
may be off topic but thought I’d share
Yep I felt this too. I was flying from Los Angeles to Sydney over night and chose to divert my flight. It was going to be my longest flight yet as I’m a new pilot. Maybe I’ll set another one up tonight to go even further
irl I heard they reduced ops to single runway today too, so delays irl as well
with 125 knots winds? XD
Sydney is windy once again, with 40 knot winds with gusts of 45. Great for people wanting to train their crosswind landing skills!
Yes! Excellent news! Look out for Quantas 17 :D
