Crazy A220 Range

Alright so a little while ago I was looking at an A220-300 on FlightRadar24 registered YL-ABO. So most A220’s are built in Montreal and I noticed it ferried Montreal ALL THE WAY to Riga nonstop. I get that there were probably only 2-6 people on board but still that seems absolutely crazy for an A220 to do! Am I just crazy or was there some sort of extra fuel tanks thing going on? Does anyone know?

The BC3 is built for long, thin routes, like the B737M series. They likely added fuel tanks for this flight, but it’s not absurd as it may seem.

The distance from Montreal to Riga is 6,316. The A220’s max range is 6,670. It’s a stretch but definitely possible to get there.

Where did you find this, I’ve been looking for the better part of 30 minutes and I cannot find one reliable source that mentioned this. The a220 can do the flight using its onboard fuel tanks which deems this unnecessary.

Ohh… sorry!
I must have found the BC1’s range, and assumed that they had to add fuel tanks, which would be the only realistic way of making the treck. I shouldn’t assume.

I know that Hawaiian adds extra tanks if they really need to fly it to the mainland US

Hawaiian doesn’t have the A220…

It’s been considered, but not confirmed if I understand correctly.

Talkin the 717 here

Didnt say that tho, and they’ve never done that either, because even for the hurricane in 2021 they couldn’t ferry them. And if they need to scrap them, even then they dont need to ferry, because they’ve already scrapped one in Kapolei.

Source?

" However, its fleet of 18 Boeing 717s, which the airline uses extensively on its inter-island services, were unable to make the trip due to lack of range. As such, they were stored safely in Kona, where the storm was predicted to be less severe." thats what i was talking abt

@Flyin.Hawaiian and @Alaska_298, maybe take this to a PM. It’s getting off topic.
