Cracks Discovered on Some B737 Aircraft

The FAA has ordered an inspection be done on the B737 NG model after cracks were discovered on some B737. The cracks were discovered at the pickle fork which connects the wings to the fuselage.

Cracks were discovered far from the 90,000 landing criteria that the pickle fork should be able to withstand by design.

Between the 737 MAX and this, Boeing just got drop kicked by the FAA. I’m not incredibly surprised as the 737 is from the 60s. Boeing has survived the 737 MAX crisis for now, but with this on top, I don’t know what will happen.

Just for the record; Boeing reported this to the FAA

I’ll give them a cookie for it too. Thanks Boeing for not hiding it?

And Airbus found cracks on the A380 earlier this year.

This isnt news worthy. It is just being put on national news because the whole media obsession with the 737 Max. Stuff like this happens all the time. There are plenty of air worthiness directives out there by the FAA for aircraft with a lot that can occur on a single aircraft model. The A320 and the 737 have more than a handful. A lot of air worthiness directives like this one are contained to just a few aircraft during a certain time frame. No need to be so easy to sound the crisis alarm on such a limited issue.

Just for perspective on how common air worthiness directives are the FAA website has 55 new directives alone in the last 60 days. You can find all of them here

This is not the year for Boeing, hopefully they can redeem themselves when the 77X comes out

This was not a great year for Boeing, but it does not mean all the future years will be like this. The DC-10 was a disaster, but it went on to become reliable and well known, and the company continued making them.

Poor Boeing. Their being slapped by the FAA. I agree with what @TimShan05 said.

Damn, Boeing has really been having it tough lately, the MAX, the 777x mishaps, low orders on aircraft, and now this. Honestly won’t be surprised if a new manufacturer rises within the next 30 or so years…

Rise of COMAC.

If McDonnell Douglas was still around, they would pounce on this opportunity.
