Copa Airlines’ Destinations in the Americas Tour: United States [Part III]

The last part of the US tour and the end of the tour around the Americas. Thanks for joining me in this series of informative posts about Copa Airlines’ destinations in the Americas! :)

Raleigh is one of the few planned cities in the United States. It was founded in 1792 and named after Sir Walter Raleigh, the sponsor of the ill-fated Roanoke Colony. The city boasts several historic landmarks, including the North Carolina State Capitol, a Greek Revival building, and the Joel Lane Museum House, the oldest house in Raleigh.

Raleigh’s cultural scene is diverse. The North Carolina Museum of Art houses an impressive collection of art from around the world, while the North Carolina Museum of History offers a fascinating look at the state’s past. Raleigh is part of the Research Triangle, a region known for its high concentration of universities, research institutions, and technology companies. This has led to rapid growth and innovation in the city. The city is home to a prosperous tech field, with companies like Cisco Systems, SAS Institute, and Red Hat having a significant presence. Copa Airlines flies to Raleigh-Durham International Airport, for their flights to the Raleigh/Durham metropolitan area.

Places to visit in Raleigh include:

The story of San Francisco begins with the indigenous Ohlone people who inhabited the region for centuries. In 1776, Spanish missionaries founded Mission Dolores, marking the city’s official birth. The subsequent Gold Rush in 1848 transformed it into a bustling metropolis, attracting fortune seekers from around the world. The city’s history is marked by significant events, including the 1906 earthquake and fire that devastated the city but also paved the way for its modern reconstruction. San Francisco’s role in the counterculture movement of the 1960s and its ongoing technological revolution have further solidified its reputation as a progressive and innovative hub.

San Francisco’s diverse population has contributed to its cultural landscape. The city is renowned for its arts scene, with world-class museums, theaters, and music venues. The annual San Francisco International Film Festival and the Outside Lands Music Festival are just a few of the many cultural events that draw visitors from far and wide. The city’s unique neighborhoods, such as the Mission District, Chinatown, and North Beach, offer a glimpse into different cultures and traditions. Each neighborhood has its own distinct character, with its own culinary delights, historical sites, and vibrant street life.

Copa Airlines flies to this city via San Francisco International Airport. Things to do in San Francisco include:

  • Golden Gate Bridge
  • Alcatraz Island
  • Golden Gate Park
  • Pier 39
  • Cable Cars
  • Coit Tower
  • Lombard Street

Tampa’s history is a blend of Native American heritage, Spanish colonial influence, and American development. The area was originally inhabited by the Timucuan people, who thrived in the region for centuries. In the 16th century, Spanish explorers arrived, establishing missions and forts. The city’s modern history began in the 19th century with the establishment of Fort Brooke. The 1880s saw a significant influx of immigrants, particularly Cubans, who brought their cigar-making expertise to the area, transforming Ybor City into a cultural hub. The cigar industry flourished, contributing to Tampa’s economic growth and unique cultural identity.

The city’s Cuban heritage is still evident in its cuisine, music, and architecture. Ybor City, a historic district, is a testament to this rich cultural heritage. Beyond its Cuban roots, Tampa offers a diverse cultural scene. The city hosts a variety of festivals and events throughout the year, celebrating music, art, food, and culture. The Riverwalk, a scenic waterfront promenade, is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.

Copa Airlines serves this city through Tampa International Airport. Places to visit in Tampa include:

  • Ybor City
  • Tampa Bay History Center
  • The Florida Aquarium
  • Busch Gardens Tampa Bay
  • Clearwater Beach

Washington D.C., the capital of the United States, is a city full of history, culture, and with a great political significance. Established in 1790, it was designed to be a neutral territory, distinct from any particular state. The city’s layout was planned by Pierre L’Enfant, who envisioned a grand, neoclassical city with wide avenues and monumental buildings. The city was attacked and burned by British forces during the War of 1812, leading to the rebuilding and expansion of many structures. D.C. played a pivotal role in the Civil Rights Movement, with iconic events like the March on Washington in 1963.

The city has world-class museums like the Smithsonian Institution, the National Gallery of Art, and the National Air and Space Museum, offering a vast collection of artifacts and artworks. D.C. is a melting pot of cultures, with diverse neighborhoods like Adams Morgan, Chinatown, and Georgetown, each offering unique dining, shopping, and nightlife experiences. The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is a hub for theater, dance, and music, hosting renowned performances and events.

HP-9803CMP has emerged from the Renton assembly line in September and has made its first flight almost a couple of weeks ago. This will be the third 737 MAX 8 for Copa Airlines.

The end of the year is getting closer. Like for many other airlines, this time of the year will be one of the busiest ones for Copa Airlines. Not only are Panamanians living abroad traveling to Panama, but also many other people flying from north to south and vice-versa that will connect through Panama. With Copa Airlines, they’ll get to their destination by the end of the day

So continental used to own a 49% stake in Copq and that’s why the livery is so similar blah blah blah

Reviving an old chestnut.

From the archives:

As the airline continued with their expansion plans in the 1990s, Copa Airlines and Continental Airlines created a strategic alliance. Continental had 49% of Copa’s actions, later increasing it up to 51%. Following the alliance, a new brand and livery were created, due to the significant influence Continental had in the Panamanian carrier, and Copa also joined the OnePass frequent flyer program.

Where should Copa Airlines fly next?

Today, the airline serves 84 cities across the Americas, including the most relevant metropolis in the continent. They currently have a fleet of 101 Boeing 737s, with more to come in the next years.

But where should the airline fly next? Coming up soon, a tour through cities where there’s potential of a direct flight to Panama with Copa Airlines.

I feel like Copa should fly to San Jose De Los Cabos since it is a very popular touristic destination.

I’m honestly surprised they haven’t started MSP. It’s a much bigger population center than some of the places they serve, and there’s certainly demand for South America service, which Copa could offer with just one stop.
