Copa Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8

Copa Airlines’ Destinations in the Americas Tour: Trinidad and Tobago

Close to Venezuela, lies the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. Copa Airlines flies to the country’s capital city of Port of Spain. The city was originally founded back in 1560 by the Spanish, who named the area “Puerto de los Españoles” (Port of the Spanish). That same year, a garrison was built near the Laventille Hills.

The city grew overtime, having to deal with areas with tidal mudflats covered with mangroves and the diversion of River St. Ann’s course since it was prone to flooding. Trinidad and Tobago then was conquered by the British in 1797. Even under British rule, Port of Spain continued to grow at positive paces, reaching 100,000 inhabitants by the 1960s. Copa Airlines flies to Piarco International Airport for their flights to Port of Spain.

Some places to visit at Port of Spain are:

  • Maracas Beach
  • Royal Botanical Gardens
  • Fort George
  • Independence Square
  • The Red House
