Copa Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8

Copa Airlines’ Destinations in the Americas Tour: Puerto Rico

We leave the island of Hispaniola and move over to the “Island of Enchantment:” Puerto Rico. Officially the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, was originally a Spanish colony, eventually becoming a free associated state to the USA, in other words, a US unincorporated territory. Copa Airlines flies to its capital city: San Juan. Founded in 1521, is the city is the 3rd oldest European settlement in the Americas, after Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic and Panama City, Panama. Its founder was Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León, who eventually became the first governor of the island.

Today, San Juan is the main economic hub of Puerto Rico, mainly thanks to tourism, manufacturing of chemical products, textiles and electronic devices. San Juan, like the entire island, has been coping with the sequels let behind by Hurricane Maria, nonetheless, Puerto Rico has recovered positively. Copa Airlines operates at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport for their flights to San Juan.

Some places to visit in San Juan are:

  • Old San Juan
  • Castillo San Felipe del Moro
  • Paseo de la Princesa
  • Calle de la Fortaleza
  • Condado Beach
