I thought it would be nice to start a thread of just tips and tricks that we as controllers (TS or ES) have learned, found, or created to help improve our ATC skills and overall experience. I would love to see what you guys have come up with during your time controlling on IF and maybe we can all learn some new techniques to become even better.
My first “ah ha!” moment was when I figured out how to get the EXACT distance an incoming aircraft is from the runway threshold.
Go into Tower view, swap to Free Mode camera, and “fly” yourself to the threshold of the runway. The distance shown in this view is relative to your camera’s position. So if you position your camera at the threshold then you can see the aircraft’s distance from that point.
If you pull up your radar while your camera is there, you can still see what the aircraft’s distance is from tower as well as it’s actual distance in the background view from your free cam.
I can’t wait to read what you guys have to share. I’m about to head into work so I’m hoping to come back to some great tips when I get off.
Have fun, fly safe.
