Contacting Tower in BIKF

I was on final approach when I was instructed to contact tower, that had just opened. I tried to get on the frequency but there was only Unicom available as well as the airport on the map only said ground was open. I ended the flight because I didn’t want to risk getting ghosted, as I had no way to be cleared to land. Does anybody know why this happened?

Was this on the training server or the expert?

always always always use send & switch as the reply.

Expert server.

Send and switch doesnt always work. What you can do next time is go into the map, and click on the ATC active airport and it should pull up all of the active frequencies.

You can see on the active frequencies list, that it wasn’t there, the best thing to do is always use send & switch

Right about that. I dont know at this point. You should contact the controller @Joel it is possible that he was having issues on his end.

Some one recommended a great idea - If you’re unable contact tower change your callsign to NODOR I believe it was and IFATC knows you cannot communicate

This can happen. I tried to contact you twice, and I already assumed that you have problems with the frequencies.

This is a known issue, and there’s nothing that can be done to fix it, other than restarting your connection to the live server.

IFATC will try and work around you as much as you can, and will try not to ghost you if you cannot contact their frequency.

Yeah, sorry about that. What’s the best option to do if this happens?

No problem, this is not your fault. Check the link above for more info :)

Send and switch doesn’t work with an on guard warning, you have to manually go in and switch. If they weren’t on the frequency list of the airport then they probably were no longer active for one reason or another or were having network issues. I wouldn’t exit the flight, I’d either exit the airspace or do what previous people have said and change my callsign to NODOR.

This is fairly common.

When this happens to me, I act as though it’s Unicom.

If there’s traffic, be respectful and find an open slot to make your way in. If you are following traffic patterns, the controllers will probably understand what’s going on.

Take screenshots, so in the event you do get ghosted you can prove that you weren’t blatantly ignored ATC.

Same thing happened to me last night approaching KMDW. I was showing that only the ground frequency was manned so I continued in using Unicom. I was sent an on guard warning by Midway tower but on my screen was only Unicom and Midway ground. I left the airspace and was diverting when the tower frequency finally popped up. This was on expert.

Agreed. Faster and less time consuming in some cases. Every second counts 🤷🏻‍♂️😉
