Confession of an IFATC member

Hello everyone, as an IFATC member, I’d like to share something that happens frequently: after landing, many pilots stop after exiting the runway to request a gate. This behavior can be both dangerous and inconvenient for the next aircraft landing and for us controllers as we have to issue a ‘continue taxi’ command every time (It would be great if there were a command that instructed pilots not to stop after exiting the runway by the way). Situations like this increase our workload, especially at busy airports. I’m sharing this message with the community to start a discussion, as it’s something that could potentially be avoided

Just issue a taxi clearance as soon as they land or have them contact ground

In the real world, if you’re not cleared to taxi or do anything, you have to stop once you’re clear of the runway (and the hold short marking) and request taxi instructions.

I agree with the guy above me; issue a taxi instruction while they’re on the landing roll if you want them to keep rolling.

thats correct some of pilot stop at mid of runway after receiving exit runway when able plzz expedite nd some block runway exit point which make unnecessary Go Around

Tower doesn’t have the ability to issue taxi commands and contacting ground while on the runway is equally inconvenient and won’t usually work.

Not really. You must enter the taxiway and then the ground will give you taxi instructions. If you stay still after leaving the runway, it will congest traffic! When you contact the ground you have to be moving.

At my Hometown Airport, ATc will ask they to contact ground when before exit the runway.

Well the tower can simply hand over the plane to ground, that’s what they do in the real world…

You can still contact ground whenever you are handed off, while still moving on the runway or not

I actually didn’t know you weren’t supposed to do that. I’ll try avoid it from now on

If you’re not cleared to taxi, you can’t just move wherever you want on the airport. This isn’t up to anyone’s opinion. Get clear of the runway and stop once you pass the hold short line.

You can prevent congestion by being an effective controller.

Is what i’ve been trying to say; you should pass the hold short line and enter on the first taxiway it appears to you (I never said you can move whenever you want on the airport). The point on my text I wrote is “the pilot stop before the hold short line” I mean, he still on the runway despite he thinks he’s off.
