Cockpit view landing

How do i maintain centerline and not flare too much when landing in cockpit view i have been used to hud but now i want to make my IF experience a litttle more realistic but i fail

Best way I found to practice no-HUD cockpit landings was in solo mode, starting off with no wind, and grinding the Short Final button, then progressively changing the winds.

It just takes practice really - there’s not really much else to it…

Make sure to always watch your speed, and to make use of rudder, especially during windy landings

Make sure you’re fully configured before you reach the runway threshold. Once over the threshold, cut your throttle and begin a slow flare—not too extreme. You might float a little, but make sure to commit to the landing. To maintain centerline, use the HUD. In real life, if a plane lands off-centerline, they don’t correct it until the aircraft is much slower, if at all. So, if you land off-centerline, don’t worry about it. Just slow down and make your exit.

Same here. Ive been trying to do it in the cockpit view but its a bit hard to see the runway

I found out that u need to make sure that PFD is lined up with the centerline that helps me to maintain it

As a cockpit view only IF pilot, I can agree it just becomes normal after a lot of repetition. I guess over time, you just get used to the little movements you make to correct as you cross over the threshold & taking into consideration the wind.

For flare, it’s key to listen to the call outs & amending it to the plane you’re in. If it’s a big airline with slanted gear for touchdown, a call out of 20 or just after is good for a flare. But, for smaller aircraft and/or those closer to the ground, you really want to be flaring after you hear a 10 call out, depending on speed and angle of the RWY etc 🫡

Land which ever way you want on centerline off centerline on the taxiways at the gate -5000fpm or -10fpm doesn’t matter. Any landing you walk away from in one piece is a good landing

Questions that even myself can’t answer (always land to the left/right).

Depends on the aircraft, but the key is knowing when to idle your engines and slowly pull your phone towards you to achieve a nice flare. For the A320 and A223 I idle and flare at 20ft, with the 737 family I idle and flare at 30. The Ejets don’t need flaring, just idle at 20 and they’ll land fine. Bigger aircraft such as the A333 need an idle at 30 and a more agressive pull to arrest the landing.

However, I do all that with HUD, only way to see the glideslope and centreline indicators for now.
