[CLOSED] Zello ATC EDDL – EHAM @ EDDL 141900ZOCT16

Server: Casual

Region: Amsterdam

Airport: EDDL, EHAM

Time: 1900Z

NOTAM:

Following the massive amount of traffic on my last event, I’m making another one! I’m meeting up with MilagePlusHalvorsen and Daniel Meland for an awesome night of controlling!

As usual: Please read through all info before connecting, as this will ensure the best service for everyone!

[details= Zello channels / frequency information (EDDL)]

This time, to increase workflow, I will merge most frequencies into one channel (don’t worry, this is done in real life as well). However, DEP/APP remains in a separate channel.

EDDL TWR channel: EDDL TWR 118.300
(Station name: Dusseldorf Tower.)
Tower will handle all Clearance Delivery requests, as well as ground. You don’t call ground for anything, only Tower. Thus, it will be “Dusseldorf Tower, NAX2964 requesting IFR clearance to Brussels as filed” or “Dusseldorf Tower, NAX2964 ready for P&S”.

If you have been given a SID departure, then follow it. I will give you a heads up if you aren’t following it.
If you aren’t able to follow a SID, request a Omni-directional departure from Tower. This can be done just by saying “Dusseldorf Tower, NAX2964 requesting clearance to Brussels as filed, non RNAV capable”.

Langen Radar channel: Langen Radar 133.77
(Station name: Langen Radar.)
This is basically the same as departure/approach, but with a different station name.

All frequencies will be ‘listen only’ until the event is close by. Connect to the channels and I will make an announcement prior to starting.

Here are the QR codes to the frequencies!

[details= Zello channels / frequency information (EHAM)]

EHAM GND channel: EHAM GND 121.200
(Station name: Schiphol Ground.)

EHAM TWR channel: EHAM TWR 118.100
(Station name: Schiphol Tower.)

If you have been given a SID departure, then follow it. I will give you a heads up if you aren’t following it.
If you aren’t able to follow a SID, request a Omni-directional departure from Tower. This can be done just by saying “Schiphol Tower, NAX2964 requesting clearance to Brussels as filed, non RNAV capable”.

All frequencies will be ‘listen only’ until the event is close by. Connect to the channels and I will make an announcement prior to starting.

[details=Verbal ATC information]

IF using Zello is a way to fly with verbal ATC communication. In order to avoid misunderstandings and bad service, pilots are expected to have at least basic understanding of verbal ATC communication. This is not the same as knowing the commands in IF. Verbal ATC is more complex and more reliant on pilot knowledge.

To give you a little idea of what you should know, here’s a list of things I expect you to know:

  • Properly requesting a IFR / VFR clearance, and reading back (CRAFT can be a good help here).
  • Understanding and being able to fly SID/STAR procedures
  • Think before you talk principle, being short and concise on the frequency to not clutter it up.
  • Understanding traffic reports, and how to maintain visual seperation
  • Properly flying VFR (If that’s what you want), including VFR reporting points, altitude restrictions etc.
  • Difference between EAA/FAA (Europe/US) procedures.

If you are unsure as to how to proceed with verbal ATC, fear not! Look at this guide, and it will explain it to you in a easy-to-understand manner.

A thing I see all the time when controlling Zello is people interrupting another transmission. When you connect, please listen for at least 10 seconds before transmitting. When you hear me give an instruction to a pilot, or a pilot reads back, you are NOT allowed to interrupt. Please wait until the channel is free before transmitting.

Also, I’m here to help. Reply here or send me a PM if you have any questions!
DO NOT USE THE FREQUENCY FOR QUESTIONS OR UNECESSARY CHATTER.

Repetitive interruptions in an transmission, not following instructions and/or any other offenses might get you banned from the channel. You are then out of the event, and will be treated as a rogue aircraft.

[details=Misc. information (IMPORTANT)]

  • ATIS might be available if demand is high.
  • Have a finished flight plan filed a couple of minutes before requesting clearance. All planes without flight plans will be denied (this also applies to VFR circuits)
  • Please use a company callsign if flying commercial, or valid GA callsigns if flying GA (Please note that for GA I will shorten your callsign, do not shorten until I do it. Once I do it, use the shortened one, not the full. :)
  • If you do not hear a command 100%, don’t be afraid to tell me to repeat it with a “say again [command]”.
  • Don’t read back unless you know exactly what you are reading back.
  • When you connect, please listen for at least 10 seconds before transmitting. When you hear me give an instruction to a pilot, or a pilot reads back, you are NOT allowed to interrupt. Please wait until the channel is free before transmitting.
  • Minimize the amount of “ehh”, “uhm” etc. and keep your messages short and concise.

[details=What is Zello?]

Zello is an external app for both iOS and Android devices, used simulating voice based ATC communication like in real life. It works much like a walkie talkie. Go to their website and download it, and plot in the channel names located under “Zello channels / frequency information”. Please read through all of the information here before flying, though!

[/details]

More information might be added at a later time, so check back regularly.

See you on the frequencies!

I’m interested Mats, how long will it be open for because I don’t think I can push myself to get up at 6am on a Saturday.

If you request IFR with RNAV capabilities, you need to know what a SID is. :) For those of you who don’t know, check out this wonderful VATISM guide on the topic.

https://www.vatsim.net/pilot-resource-centre/ifr-specific-lessons/sids-and-stars

I will explain SID’s more thoroughly.

Sorry for the rotated pic.
Here is the chart for the DODEN SID’s at EDDL. DODEN is the initial waypoint you would follow, and there are several ‘roads’ to get there. When you request clearance, you are assigned one of these ‘roads’, marked first by DODEN (which I will see is your first waypoint in your FLP), and then I will assign you a number after that, based on which runway you are going to depart from. On the bottom part you see the routing information.
Let’s say you’re departing from 05L.

When you ask for IFR clearance to say, Brussels, I will respond something like this:

“NAX2964 you are cleared to Brussels airport via the DODEN2J departure, runway 05L, when airborne contact Dusseldorf director on 128.650, squawk 0254”.

Then you read back

“Cleared to Brussels via the DODEN2J departure, runway 05L, 128.65 when airborne, squawk 0254, NAX2964”.

After that, you plot in the waypoints you see along the DODEN 2J path on the chart, and you’re good to go!

Zello Question
We are starting with cold and dark cockpit or with the filled flight plan?

Ehhh, that really doesn’t matter to me, you won’t contact me until you have filed Anyways… :P However you might have to alter it based on the SID you’re given, so my advice is to wait until you have gotten your clearance :)

Copy… I hope I can join

Sounds interesting. Might be there
