CLOSED...MaxAsk: ADS-B is being introduced soon! Who's the Expert?;

MaxSez: I note ADS-B (in/out) is being introduced worldwide. India, China, EU and the FAA are/have introduced (ing) it to replace/up grade to the Future ATC system which is now radar dependent. Short and sweet; How’s it works, who has it now and any must have drop dead date for installation in US Flagged Liners and GA?

(Layman’s Terms Pls)

The Diamond I fly has ADS-B installed, but quick shout to anyone looking to get it installed in their aircraft soon ~ the deadline for the FAA rebate is September 18th, 2017. That’s $500 you’ll save, but you also go through quite a few hoops to get validated and then you get taxed on it. May or may not be worth it depending on how you roll.

I believe the requirement for getting ADS-B installed is 2020 so better get them installed quick if you’re thinking about it.

As @cleipelt said the dead line is 2020. The requirement is only for ADS-B out. In isn’t a requirement at this time. The ADS-B replaces the existing mode C transponder and updates it to mode S. The same altitude encoder can be used as well as the same transponder antenna. With an additional GPS. So it works much like the transponder we have now, other then GPS capability. The requirement is also for controlled airspace if you fly around in uncontrolled airspace it isn’t required.

MazSez: @Brandon_Sandstrom @cleipelt… The short article I read indicated that there was a collision avoidance and separation/ID capability with the system for GA. Is that a recent or future capability?

Yes that’s ADS-B in it allows you to see nearby traffic, and also get an audible warning.
