Herb Kelleher, along with Rollin King founded Southwest Airlines in 1967. They began operations in 1971 as a small intra-state airline that were not under government regulations of airfares. The company quickly grew, fueled by their low fares and friendly faces. Herb served as the CEO and Chairman of the board for nearly 30 years. Under his direction, the company saw tremendous success and had a wonderful atmosphere as a result of their focus on people. Southwest Airlines has consistently ranked among America’s most admired companies and best places to work and have received several awards for the customer service and rapid rewards programs and is the largest domestic airline in the United States. It’s all thanks to Herb Kelleher and a dream that started on a cocktail napkin.
