  • 1/3 of koala population have perished
  • 500,000,000 animals have died

I love this event and the cause!! I’ll take a gate in the 737.

I just wanted to add that the estimate of 480 million from ecologists at the University of Sydney is very conservative. Apparently it is much closer to a billion which breaks my heart even more. I believe the RFS has most things covered now that it has received a boost in funding and will receive much greater aerial support, so I think wildlife care deserves a lot more attention. Trees are more or less replaceable, animals, not so much. And animals are emotional beings and our native wildlife is so unique!

You can put me down for the next cargo gate as part of GAF (RAAF C-130) although be aware that I am part of the RFS and we do have strike teams from my station (Glenhaven) going up there so I may not be able to participate due to operational requirements.
Also just with the map, im not sure how accurate it is as those fires are about double the size now and almost at the highway (55km East) which just gives you a sense of shear size we are dealing with. This is one of two major fires next rob Sydney with more major ones at Baitmans bay, the Central Coast, Grafton and many more around the place with fires in Victoria, ACT and SA starting to get ready bad.
