I thought it was an A-36 until that last hint. Is this one of those replica kits? I think they call it the T-51, right?

I knew a guy that was building a 3/4 scale replica kit back when I was in college. It looked like a lot of fun, but I would be scared to see it fly. Home builts scare me :/

This reminds me of those stories from the Reno air races, where they modified T-6s. Is it something like that?
