almost crashed taking off from LSZH, heading LOWW on Austrian 321.
š¬ - thatās a bit closeā¦
Itās dangerous
Thatās a close one!
What server was this?! š³
If I was in this situation, idk if you saw the other plane or they just decided to take off as well, I wouldāve probably rejected or waited to depart (if UNICOM was being used) but yeah was def a close one!
āHey, Austrian XXX, Iāve got a number to copy when you have a second.ā
If this was on the expert server, I would reach out to a supervisor with your replay. :)
Thatās very close š
What server was this on if you donāt mind me asking?
Are you sure thatās not a G/A plane?
I mean that is tight but that can happen sometimes while using intersecting runways.
As a pilot you should have been aware of your surroundings for your own safety.
If there was a plane departing you could have either rejected the takeoff if you felt it was unsafe or slowed down so you would have had more space with the plane.
I would disagree.
It is up to the controllers discretion to manage seperation, which frankly is quite simple. Even if this was a G/A, shouldnāt takeoff clearance been cancelled for this pilot? I wouldnāt blame the victim here.
According to the ATC manual, āArriving/departing aircraft must be beyond the runway intersection prior to a departure beginning itās take-off roll or an arrival crossing the threshold on an intersecting runway. Consideration should also be given to the extended centerline of runways, where the runway does not physically intersect, but aircraft flight paths would during take-off and landing. In these cases the same separation criteria should be affordedā.
Therefore, if aircraft A was just past the intersection, I would assume that Aircraft B was instructed to begin its takeoff roll before Aircraft A was past the intersection. This means it was a loss of separation.
While this was a loss of separation, we also need to see the perspective of the controller: we all make mistakes, and Vienna was the hub of the day. If you would like, you could respectfully reach out to the controller to show them what happen, as this could be a learning experience for the controller!
expert serverš³
Oh I thought about it but maybe it was some low experience controller whoās still learning
Thanks for the feedback!
