Hello! I have to say great job to the developers for a wonderful aircraft addition. I stick to mostly GA aircraft with 100s of hours in the TBM and the Citation and I gotta say the Challenger is a fantastic bird that fits in great in the GA category perfectly in this game. My question is has anyone attempted to cross the Atlantic with the CL35 yet? If so do you have any pointers? I fly out of CHS so Im pretty sure Ill have to have a tech stop on my way over but in the little time Ive had in it I believe it could be done non-stop with a good tail wind. Cheers and happy flying!!
Good afternoon ASmith,
To answer your question generally, yes, the CL35 is highly capable of doing trans-atlantic flights. There’s really no pointers except to fly, although keep the speed to .78 - .80 for realism. The max range for the aircraft is 3200 NM, so you should be able to fly New York-Paris with ease. More information here >>
Have I attempted it? No. Is it possible? Absolutely. It has a maximum flight time (optimizing everything) of about 8hr 10m so any flight less than 7hr 30m is a pretty safe bet. M 0.82 for efficiency but if you’re afraid of the overspeed tape then 0.81 or 0.80 work too.
Hey, I’ve done it. In fact, not only have I done it, I’ve done it more inland.
I took off from Mackinac Island in Michigan, and landed the next morning in Rijeka. To add onto @AndrewWu just a bit, the absolute limit is 8:13 with 19 pounds of fuel remaining. So a easy New York-London type of flight is completely in the Challengers limits and can do it worry free.
Hey there. I’m currently doing a round the world flight with the CL35 and if you plan on a 3,000 mile leg, you’ll land with an hour of fuel. (Depending on winds of course) Take it up to FL450 if not too heavy to get above the stronger winds and you’ll get better fuel burn as well.
Oh no way! I did my first Transatlantic flight with the Challenger 350 from Rome, Italy to Mackinac Island, Michigan. I landed with plenty of fuel to spare, cruising at FL430.
Even on a full tank of fuel and maximum passenger/cargo load, the Challenger 350 doesn’t use much runway at all.
I’ve been to Mackinac several times irl. If you haven’t, look it up. Cars are banned on the island (besides emergency vehicles. It’s a really nice island and nice scenery.
Ill be flying CHS-London City next week. Think I might make a fuel stop in Portland though we’ll see (they have reasonable fuel rates there)
Not yet you’re right it is an amazing bird
I think that’s easily doable on the Challenger with a light load. I’d fly at FL450 to get as high up from the wind as possible.
Hello, my question is can the Challenger 350 fly from PHNL to PKMJ then island hop to Guam or other areas of the south Pacific.
I’d think so, yeah. With maximum fuel and a lighter load.
