Hi guys, can anyone please tell me what TAF is on the weather for airports in IF as I don’t know what it is.
TAF stands for Terminal Aerodrome Forecast and is simply a weather forecast that is read pretty much exactly like a METAR, and the valid times for each TAF are shown in the report itself
TAF is predictive METAR, essentially. It gives you an idea of what weather to expect moving forward. For example, if opening EGLL under calm winds, it would be prescient to look at the TAFs. If they indicate the winds may be changing to 260@9kts in the next hour or so, you would use the 27s.
This is yet another reason why colors are irrelevant.
