Cessna 172 Takeoff

Could someone explain the takeoff procedure for a Cessna 172 for me ? I’m having a problem of reaching rotation speed of about 55-60 knots, pulling back but the aircraft just won’t take off. I just continue on the ground before eventually sliding off and crashing

(P.S this was on solo so I didn’t ruin the online servers realism flying a plane I barely knew anything about :)

The tutorial above goes over a bit about the takeoff procedures of the 172. :)

Thanks, I’ll take a look

Well, there are many factors that affect your rotation speed. Here are a few important ones to use in Infinite Flight.

  1. Engine power - C172s use 100% throttle on takeoff.
  2. Mixture - Your mixture should be at 100% for takeoff.
  3. Winds - You should always take off into headwinds, as it allows you to reach your rotation speed earlier.
  4. Flaps - Your flaps should be at either 10 degrees or 20 degrees, depending on how much runway you have to use and other various things.
  5. Rudder - You should use your rudder to keep your nose pointed down the centerline, to prevent your aircraft from sliding around too much, causing you to lose speed and control of the aircraft.

Thanks for your help :)

Be sure that the flaps are extended…if they are not, this why you can’t take off…probably

My flaps were extended to 10°, I don’t really know why I couldn’t take off as I used all of these tips, I’ll give it another try, thanks for your reply :)

I thout Cessnas didn’t use any flaps for takeoff usually. I might be wrong.

They sure do, typically 10 degrees, but as I said, they can use 20 as well.

Well you learn something new every day.

You can also check if your device is calibrated correctly (you can always recalibrate it in the menu:)

Hmm… I’ve never used them, and when I’ve flown them in real life, they don’t. They can be a range of 0-20 degrees (it’s on the checklist). I do agree that it depends on runway length, weight, etc, but typically, flaps are up.

Just my observation :)

that is completely wrong information. cessnas only use flaps on takeoff and its only 10 degrees. they only reason why you should be using flaps on takeoff is a short field or soft field takeoff

Here is how to fly the 172;
Rotation 55-60 knots FLAPS UP
Put the airplane in ground affect to speed up between 75-80 knots
pitch up to maintain 75-80 knots or a 500 feet per minute climb

Make sure the temperature is down too, you don’t want high density altitude.
