Cessna 172 Checklist - Infinite Flight

When you taxi, Lean the mixure (low %) as much as you can without the engine quitting then add some. This is going to decrease the amount of fuel going into the cylinders for combustion compared to air resulting in a cleaner burn and preventing spark plug fouling. Before takeoff, Richen the mixture the full rich (below 3000’ airport elevation). When you reach cruise altitude, lean the mixture same way you would on the ground. (as we climb, the air is less dense so there is a higher FUEL-air ratio than if we were lower). This can create more power and allow for better fuel efficiency. Many people use the EGT gauge for leaning but I just look at the RPM
