Canon EOS R100 camera for spotting

Hi,
I am looking to buy a camera for spotting, and I want to know if anyone thinks that the Canon R100 is good for this purpose. The main reason why I chose this camera is because it is cheap. Any other recommendations for this price range, either new or used/refurbished?

Here’s the thing. The R100 is a good camera for what it costs, which in the US is about $260 used. That is most similar to a T6i and it has some heavy advantages over that camera. However. Your lens selection with it is limited. You basically have two choices, the RF-S 55-210 5-7.1 and the RF 100-400 5.6-8. The 55-210 is the cheaper option, around $250, but you will not be able to use it if you upgrade to full frames in the future. The 100-400 is about $600 and can be mounted on full frames but the 5.6-8 may or may not be a dealbreaker depending on what you want to do with it.

On the Canon DSLR side you have the option of the 55-250 IS STM which is a fantastic starter lens for about $150. I’m not sure though if a T6i + that would be better than the R100 + 55-210 (my guess is no, but probably similar).

Essentially, if you’re really budget limited and want to spend around $500 maximum than the R100 with the RF-S 55-210 is a pretty good choice. If you have like up to $1000 you have some more options, and perhaps you’d want to look into an R50, Z50, or A6300.
