I doubt using a cellular network would fare much better.

Yes, I used the cellular network when I entered infinite flight, and only switched to WiFi after entering, so that at least I could fly. However, this method seems to be more expensive to fly.

Hello! I’m currently in China and I’m encountering the same problem. The only way is to use cellular data card which bypasses the Chinese firewall, completing my flights this way at the expense of heavy data consumption. Unless you connect to a VPN, which is not possible on my side. Which VPN software do you use may I ask?

哈喽同胞 我本人在宁波所以有时候也会有这个问题，一般来说挂个梯子就可以解决了 挂梯子进入个游戏app的时候注意要设全局，进入游戏加载完机型把设置调成Direct一般就能连接了
最近好像我有朋友说不挂梯子连游戏都进不去 希望下个更新可能会补

From what I understood, I don’t think the IF developers are able to fix the problem with an update. This issue most likely arises from the Chinese firewall which perhaps has been actively restricting this game or a wider range of similar apps, and nothing can be done dev-wise.
Yeah well @CQSamuelCai said that he could access it without a vpn but it suddenly stopped working just a few days ago
Same here. I’m in China since mid-July and it worked - just a few outages in Global Server - until last week. After that everyone here in China including me started complaining about connection issues.
i think it may cause by political reason（九三阅兵） the situation maybe better after 3.9
