Welcome To New York
Information on New York’s La Guardia Airport
Having opened on December 2nd, 1939, La Guardia airport is a very historic and influential airport located in Queens, New York. The airport was initially known as both La Guardia Field and New York Municipal Airport until the city transferred ownership of the airport to the Port Authority. The airfield was officially named LaGuardia Airport after the agreement was finalized in June of 1947. Over the course of the airport’s history, many major construction and redevelopment projects have occurred. The original terminal is called the Marine Air Terminal or M.A.T for short, which was built in 1940, and is still used today under the name of Terminal A. Terminal B, or the Central Terminal Building, was built in 1964, and was the main terminal used at LGA for a long time. In March of 2016, New York allocated nearly 8 billion dollars to completely reconstruct the airport. Terminals B and C were completely torn down and reconstructed, making the airport much more modern and customer friendly. That project was mainly completed in 2021, leaving us with a brand new state of the art facility that handled 15.6 million passengers in 2021. Today, La Guardia serves around 85 destinations around North America through 8 airlines. It is mostly run by Delta and American Airlines, but Spirit, jetBlue, Frontier, Air Canada, Southwest, and United also fly there.
