Hiya IFC, I’ve been recently getting into making content of my RWA flights. I currently film on my phone which is an IPhone 13 Pro Max. It works good but i would like to upgrade to a camera or whatever other people use to film. Any suggestions?
For a camera, a Canon 90D works great. Also, a Sigma lens is also worth the price.
I use my iPhone and it works just fine for me
A 90D is complete overkill for this
But 90D is good, right?
You do NOT need a 90D to vlog flights. In fact, I probably wouldn’t use a DSLR for this because 1. It’s really bulky and kind of hard to carry as a vlog camera and 2. It can’t focus worth beans in low light (which you will deal with a lot). I’m not into the recording space so I won’t offer any advice but probably some small mirrorless or actual video camera would be better.
Just get a GoPro, they’re small and cost 3x less than a 90D
A Sony ZV-E10, Nikon Z30 or anything similar works well. Or you could get one with a built in bridge lens if that suits you more. I don’t own any of them but the reviews are great and they are reasonably cheap (especially if you buy them second hand).
Same. The iPhone 13 has a good camera.
I have an iPhone 14, which has a good camera too.
A Sony full frame is good, a lot of YouTubers use it
Now what camera do Live Flights and LAX Live use?
EOS M60 MK2 is a decent vlogging style camera. There are decent alternatives from Sony, etc.
You’ll find that a lot of spotting channels use camcorder style devices as they’re smaller and easier to move around.
But honestly, if you’re already using a 13 Pro Max, that’s more than enough. Shoot in raw and learn some editing, you’ll get as good as pretty much anything from a proper camera, and it’ll be much easier to handle
Mkay thank you. Any recommendations on apps to edit with?
I use Lightroom and Lightroom Classic to edit, they’re on the MacBooks.
Read the question properly before answering. He’s talking about videos.
You could use Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, Filmora etc. They all do the same job, it’s just finding one you’re comfortable with. Heck, even the default iOS movie editor will do the job.
I personally use Filmmakerpro (since 2016) and Kdenlive on my laptop to edit and prepare my own RWA content
Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, the default imovie program for the iphone and ipad could get you by just fine if you’re just trying to add some text, rearrange clips and perhaps add a voice over
I forgot you can edit videos on there. Yeah Adobe is good for videos.
I highly recommend the Lumix FZ80 for video recording as it is really cheap compared to DSLRs and has amazing video quality and can zoom very far. Also good for plane spotting.
