Calibrating embarassment

Hi must admit I do giggle at other users for bad maneuvers or landings on IF. Quite a good laugh once in a while.

However just now at Sydney, I crashed and burned on takeoff 😫, after waiting for at least 15-20 min to takeoff in a Hornet. I was instructed to line up and wait, and there was an aircraft within 1-2nm of landing then I was cleared for immediate takeoff. Given the panic from my side, I rushed and forgot to calibrate. 🤦 With I guess 7-8 planes witnessing…

Any calibration horror stories you’d like to share??

Luckily didn’t get a violation for crashing on the taxiway or into other planes lol

Only a few but typically during landing when trying to disengage the altitude auto pilot. Some planes even after recalibration will nose dive into the ground cough cough the 787s cough cough

Just happen, when doing touch n go, forget to calibrate after turning A/P on and Tried my best to recover, but not enough airspeed lol

Not a calibration horror story, but still a good one.

I always fly with a Thrustmaster side stick connected to my tablet with a dock when playing Infinite Flight. However, there are times when it disconnects unexpectedly, which can lead to major issues. Sometimes my plane stalls mid-air or dives uncontrollably, and it’s especially frustrating when it happens during takeoff or landing.

(AP is always the best solution)

Even with trim the 787 still nose dive. When I last tried landing the 787 which was from Amsterdam to Houston I had 30% trim and recalibrated. When I disengaged the auto pilot the plane started nose diving into the ground. This is because the 787s don’t have enough lift and require that you pull back more than usual. It also doesn’t help that the 787s are extremely sensitive on the sim. Even a Cessna 172 isn’t as sensitive.

You used to be able to calibrate with trip and the planes wouldn’t nose dive because the sim would with the 0% trim regardless of what you set the trim. But with a few updates ago, I think around when the ERJ-190 rework released, they changed it to where when you recalibrate it makes what ever trim setting you have the new 0%. So if your trim is set to 30% and recalibrate the 30% becomes the new 0%. So if you were to bring the trim down to 0% that would be -30% in this scenario.

Now that I think about it I need to actually test this. To be truly 100% sure I will have to recalibrating my certainty at 0% first. 😂

yeah, what youre saying is not true (the calibrating part). And you shouldnt use one specific trim setting, you should trim until you dont see the green line

Except that green line only represents how much you are pulling back or pushing foward. If it is auto pilot flying then it won’t show the green line but as I disengaged the auto pilot, starting with the heading first then the altitude which also disables the vertical speed, then 787s nose dive sometimes alot sometimes just a little.

But you do have an interesting point here.

There was a time that I was flying a Delta 777 from Atlanta to
St. Martin when at cruise at 39,000 feet I had to make a sharp
turn so sharp that even LNAV would cause me to miss the turn.
I disconnected the autopilot and instantly got into a 70 degree
nose down dive. I tried to recover but I ended up pulling 18 gs
this completely broke the physics as the 777 just ended up
pitching up at 90 degrees and I ended up at 500,000 feet
before the app crashed.

The most annoying thing is when I try to land while lying on my back (my phone pointed up obv) and forget to calibrate before disconnecting autopilot on final. I always wildly pitch up and because I’m going so slow I stall. Normally I can recover but I have to go around and that’s always annoying (trying to land will cause a runway excursion or maybe a crash)

it does show the green line when using autopilot. Try trimming down or up and youll start seeing the autopilot correcting the trim input.

If you suddenly saw a green line after disconnecting AP, its because you didnt have your device calibrated

Funny that I hear so much about people forgetting to calibrate, whereas I for whatever reason formed an unconscious habit a long long time ago of calibrating extremely frequently even when I don’t need to at all 😂 like when I’m taxiing or on autopilot mid-flight for example, I guess its the fact that it just annoys me by default whenever im sure of my calibration not actually being properly calibrated at the time hahah
But I don’t mind having that though, because I suppose it never allows me to a calibration mistake at almost any time, and I recommend everyone to make that a habit as much as i’ve made it mine because it’ll save those sticky situations where you disconnect autopilot or takeoff or whatever and realise you’re heading face first into the ground a split second later 😂

After further testing I can confirm with 100% certainty that this statement is infact true.

Also I have done some more testing and confirmed my statement to be true as well.

This is also because the line represents your pitch level all trim does is adjust your pitch control sensitivity.
