I was on a Ryanair flight this morning from Stansted to Podgorica and on take off the cabin crew didn’t dim the lights. It was fully dark as the plane took off at around 7 but I thought the lights get dimmed. Do the cabin lights get kept on now for all departures?
It varies, I don’t know the exact policies but it’s not rare for this to happen. For example some of the flights I have been on didn’t require the window blinds to be up.
hey what cabin lights
The lights in the cabin are set to takeoff and landing based off the lighting outside. If you are taking off mid-day the lights will be set to bright. This would be the same procedure as if you would be taking off at night. This is off what I was told. They do this because it takes time for your eyes to adjust, and if something were to happen your eyes would already be used to the light. Again this is based off what I have been told.
The light are swiched off during takeoffs and landings because if there is fire outside, you can see where the fire is, so you can scape to the other side. Example: There is fire on Right engine at takeoff. You can see it very well as lights are swiched off. As you know there is fire on the right side of the airplane, you can scape to the left side, as it’s safer as there is no fire.
I hope this helped you!
This is mostly correct. Some airlines have slightly different policies, however the general gist is exactly the same.
Not really… If there is a fire in broad daylight, how would having lights on or off help with that?
I made a topic about this quite some time ago… I suggest you give it a read 😁
I was on a Jet2 flight(again with a Jet2 story) and they had the lights completely off. Same aircraft and I think the same crew I recognised them. They dimmed the lights instead of going completely off.
That’s at night
There dimmed so your eyes are adjusted to the light incase you have to evacuate
Ahh ok Cause I was confused as the cabin crew left the lights on during a night take off but it might be due to the policy
Thanks, but it was dark out side and the lights were still bright for some reason but it might be due to the Ryanair policy or something
Also happened to me on an A380 with BA. Possibly they forgot?
I was about to post this :)
