C208 CARAVAN - Planner and Performance Calculator

N700RH ready to takeoff!

Hi everyone,

I like to make calculators and fly with the most accurate numbers I possibly can get (safety first, even in an armchair…), so when the new C208 came out, I got my hand on a POH and started building a file that let me plan a flight from scratch and give as much information as possible.

I know SIMBRIEF does it, more or less, but I tried to do something a little bit more comprehensive and fun, so here we are. All that’s needed is a way to find what the winds and temperatures are going to be along the route. https://WINDY.com does it nicely for free!

Now I guess most of you would say that you know how to fly that plane. Sure. But would you confidently venture on a 777 nm trip above the ocean? (the file is set for this very distance, from Mombasa to Nosy be, and I’ll offer a cookie to the person wiling to fly it and report!)

Are you sure you can land that heavy on such a very short runway? Or takeoff with perhaps too much tailwind? Do you really know at what speed you should be cruising, at which altitude, OAT, or what your VS should be, etc. ?

I’ve been using this file for a good while and I believe that it is pretty trustable. But what I’d really like is some external feed-back. So please, let me know what you think!

I have included in the file direct links to my favorite Metar source (https://metar-taf.com) and a great site to get superb satellite views of most airports in the world (https://ourairports.com), which can be useful to find where to exit a runway or park in unfamiliar airports.

Finally, the file itself includes a basic “How to” page and I am willing to answer any question if anything is found to be unclear or wrong

Have fun flying and see you up there. And never forget to get the winds and temperature right before takeoff!

You are most welcome. And welcome back to the IFC

Hi everyone,

I just realised that there was a slight pb in the file (a formula replaced by its result…) so I fixed it. Please re down-load to get the correct(ed) file.

Apologies!

Happy flying

Excellent post! Thank you. Flew around on this little number a whole bunch (as a passenger) in Africa.

Thank you. I must say that I have never flown in it for real, my only turboprop trip being on a Buddha Air ATR-42 between Kathmandu and Pokhara… I still hope to have an opportunity one day.
