Hello everyone, it’s been a while since I’ve posted on here since I’m not too active in the sim anymore, mostly flying on MSFS these days. But I thought why not post some shots I took at Bristol Airport yesterday as a sign of my “alive and breathing” status.
Started by heading down to Felton Common, it’s a lovely area with a lot of nature on the glide path of Runway 27, perfect for sitting down with a picnic blanket and watching in-coming arrivals.
A Jet2 737-800 had experienced a bird strike just before taking off from Runway 27 and therefore returned to the ramp. Many thanks to the spotter with the radio for telling confused me what was going on. It was only a minor strike since there was no visible smoke and the aircraft was ready to go in just over an hour.
On our way out, me and my mum decided to race a Ryanair 738 which was taxying to the ramp after arrival, apologies for the shaky image, the aircraft was taxying a lot faster than you’d think. We even got a little wave from the captain which made our day!
Awesome pictures, I’ve been meaning to go again as the weather has been so nice recently, I’ve been hoping for some 09 ops. Might have to check out Felton Common, never been there for spotting before
If you plan on going during this heat I suggest bringing some sort os shade like an umbrella since there isn’t much shade and it’s very hot. But it is a great place to watch incoming aircraft landing on runway 27.
Ryanair has retrofitted many of their old NGs with split scimitar winglets, including the one in the image. I assume that’s what made you think the airframe was a 737 MAX 8, but it is indeed a 738AS.
I’ve just found an alternate angle for the aircraft, turns out it is a 737 MAX 8-200. For some reason, my camera says the image was taken at 12:26Z when in fact it was taken around 20 minutes earlier. Because of this, it led me to believe that the aircraft was the 738AS that was landing at the incorrect time the camera gave me. I’ve looked through playback around the hour and the aircraft I photographed was EI-HMZ, which is a 737 MAX 8-200. Sorry for the confusion, I’ll edit the post accordingly.
