Winter Storm Riley has officially been upgraded from a Nor’ Eastern to a Bomb Cyclone, and could be devastating. Hurricane force winds up to 80 miles per hour along with over an inch of snow and rain will hit big cities like Boston, New York, Baltimore, and Washington D.C. Many large international airports are expected to close due to forecasted low visibility. Power outages are highly expected throughout the entire are forecasted to be hit. This would be fun to fly in tomorrow in Infinite Flight! Please feel free to comment any updates and thoughts below! Also - If you live in the area that is being hit, make sure that you stay safe! :)
Oh no
Here?
We aren’t supposed to have bomb cyclones here. Up to 70 MPH gusts of wind?
I’m legitimately scared for my life right now.
I live 10 meters away from a forest. 58 MPH winds can lead to property damage.
I have a tree right in front of my door.
I wouldn’t exactly call this lucky.
I may be overreacting, but still. Having no school is one thing.
I could fly around in IF at my home airport and witness my own demise in the virtual world…
Yea I’m overreacting.
50-65 mph wind gusts estimated for the Philadelhpia region, starting off as heavy rain then switching over to wet snow on Friday night. Depending on where you are in SE PA you can get nothing or 8 inches of snow
Winter Storm Riley is not an official name for the storm, it’s simply named by The Weather Channel.
And you can’t officially upgrade a storm to a “bomb cyclone”. A bomb cyclone is just another nickname too. It’s going to be a large and dangerous nor’easter.
Anyways, where I am on LI, we can expect sustained 20-35 MPH winds, gusts possibly 50 MPH. 2-3 inches of rain likely as well, wishing it was snow! Out on the east end, gusts may reach as high as 70 MPH.
The storm is going to head off the coast, and undergo bombogenesis as it does so. Life-threatening coastal flooding is likely in coastal towns in Massachusetts. Other areas, like RI and LI will see some moderate coastal flooding, not as bad as MA.
I have to work outside pushing carts at Walmart during the storm. It’ll be fun.
We’ll get snow first and then it’ll switch to rain. MHT will see cancellations, but will remain open. We will get gusts up to 50mph, not enough to close the Retail store I work at :)
