Boeing Wins $2B NGAD Contract for F-47

The Air Force’s next and possibly last manned tactical jet will be built by Boeing.
It is intended to operate alongside drones. :sob:

Summary

Article 1
Article 2

“As the centerpiece of the NGAD effort, the new crewed sixth-generation stealth combat jet, now designated the F-47, is set to change air combat forever, with the Air Force hoping to begin fielding it in the next decade.”

“The announcement was made personally by U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office today, alongside Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin.”

“The plane’s design remains a closely held secret, but would probably include stealth, advanced sensors and cutting-edge engines.”

“Boeing’s victory also prevents a Lockheed monopoly on Air Force fighter production after the end of the decade, with future U.S. orders for the F-35A still uncertain under the new Trump administration.”

Is Boeing making a comeback?

Imagine we ever get this in Infinite Flight, it would become the new F-22 and become the champion of excessive speed violations :joy:

In all seriousness this looks like a beast!

Oh for real. What if they implement stealth technology so we can’t even see them coming lol

This with sailing aircraft carriers… :eyes:

Looks very similar to China’s J-36 - which is already flying.

That certainly seems to be the new design concept that all the NGAD concepts had.

I believe Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman all had similar designs.

Ngl, I’d love to learn how the physics behind that design work. Must be very impressive. But I don’t know anything about physics.

I agree. Must be similar to a B-2/B-21 with the almost flying wing design.

Looks like a mix between a F22 without vertical stabilizers and a B2. in my opinion it looks nice

I’m surprised it’s going to be manned aircraft. The greatest limitation of the fighter jet while also being its greatest advantage is the pilot

Let’s hope Boeing can do something successfully for once

That’s exactly my thought too. Although nice might be an overstatement… imo

Hey I’m not complaining. That would put us out of a job

Quite an interesting concept! I learned an interesting little fact about the aircraft’s name - it’s apparently an homage to President Trump (the significance of 47 being that he’s the 47th President). A rather interesting choice, partially because of how controversial of a figure he is, but also the fact that by the time it enters service (the estimated date is end of this decade, but let’s be realistic, it’ll probably get pushed), he’ll be out of the office.

“Already flying” is a poor metric for peer-competition analysis.
