you man companies*

and why do you hate it? The only bad thing that could come out of supersonic aircraft is that your definitly 100% real chemtrails will vaporize.

This would be amazing, but it is very close to being impossible. Just think from the passenger standpoint, would a passenger be comfortable in a plane going Mac 5? Now, comfortable not meaning whether or not they are nervous, but comfortable meaning the g-forces they may experience.

Hypersonic capable commercial aircraft would also mean that the aircraft would have to be pretty darn well to withstand the forces pushing against the walls. The faster the aircraft, the more structurally sound it needs to be. Which would overall increase the weight of the plane. Making it harder for the plane to fly at hypersonic speeds.

This would also have an impact on the aviation industry. Think, airports would have to adapt to the plane, costing lots and lots of money. Also, pilots would have to be specially trained to fly them. Which today, there are no commercial pilots trained to fly hypersonically capable planes. So training would cost the pilots more money as well as the schools to adapt to it. People would also be paying more for their tickets to cover costs that airlines have to pay, and then also gain a profit at the same time. So overall it would cost huge amounts of money.

This would be something Boeing would have to work their tails off to make possible. But it would definitely be cool to be able to fly from England to New York in an hour or less. But I trust that Boeing will be able to achieve this goal they have.

Very nice points. If anyone can pull this off though, Boeing can. I bet it’ll take much longer than their timeframe though.

When on a regular passengers aircraft, we only feel gee forces during takeoff. I assume they will slowly build up speed to prevent the passengers from dying.

I would like to see this happen, but I don’t think it will in less than 10 years. Military transport would definitely come before civilian transport. I like the idea, but it will be a while before we can fly at Mach 5.

I understand that the first step is something to do with military transport, but if this ever reaches commercial aviation then I hope it looks a lot different. Because I see one major problem.

See, this concept is amazing, it’s also something that has been around since the early 2000s. Boeing was considering scramjets for their SST that was later abandoned.
The obvious issues for a concept like this are the sonic boom, the structural complexity, low speed performance, high speed performance, drag, expansion due to heat, fuel, viable engines and the list goes on.
Personally, I think we’ll be waiting at least 30 years before we see this. Don’t pounce on me, however, regardless of our technology, our budget won’t stretch as far as it needs for such an aircraft.
If it was to work and sell, excellent. I’ll eat my words. But otherwise, I feel it’s going to be a very long time before we see commercial use of hypersonic transport.

I read an article that had that picture in it and it was about a supersonic drone so I’m not sure if that’s the same as the hypersonic concept.

Let’s agree that hypersonic is not happening in 10 years! I would love to see this happen though!

I don’t think this is the best idea on Boeing’s part, but I’ll allow everyone to make their own opinion.

This also explains why Boeing didn’t do supersonic in the first place.
