Hiya guys! So my dad asked me what i wanted to do for my birthday just him and i since my sister and mom are going to San Diego by themselves. He brought up the idea of saying we could fly to Palm Springs (from LA btw) or something. now here’s where i need your guys help! I’m looking for somewhere to fly and maybe head to a museum or do some spotting for a day. My birthday is in September!
I would say you could head up to the museum of flight in Seattle located at BFI which is just a few miles away from SEA, been there a few times and it’s do-able in a few hours, you might see some Boeing test flights too!
Costs some money though so just spotting at Sea-Tac or BFI is also just fine.
Go to Atlanta, stay in the RENAISSANCE CONCOURSE ATLANTA AIRPORT HOTEL, with a runway view,
Then, go to the Delta Museum. (links embeded)
Or, you can go to the TWA hotel! It’s a little bit expensive, though for a runway view.
Thank you guys!
I believe they also offer a tour at Everett although after the pandemic I’m not sure if they still do.
I’ve been on that too, that’s more of an personal experience though since they don’t allow camera’s or phones on the tour.
Yeah but I think if they offer it it’s worth especially bc you might not see a whole lot at Everett
I meant to send earlier… not sure why it didn’t
The museum of flight costs money but is absolutely worth it, one of the best museums I’ve been to and it’s not far from the airport.
Another idea is if you can find a good deal fly LAX-PAE and tour the Boeing factory. While you can’t take pictures it was an excellent experience.
As @DeltaA350 said the Delta museum is my favorite museum I’ve been to and the renaissance is an awesome hotel for spotting but I think your looking for a day trip here. But if you can find a cheap ATL flight I would highly recommend it.
Yeah! I got to do that once. Was pretty cool!
Indeed, I got to see a few Dreamliners in production, this was back when i didn’t have an actual camera though but their observation deck from the museum has a spectacular view of the airport.
I’d suggest flying to DFW, they have a huge and awesome airport. Also, right next to the airport is the C.R. Smith Museum so I suggest checking that out too.
As a Everett spotter… this is more than true all you see is e175s and 737-900s and the occasional test flight or delivery flight
There’s also a hilton right in the middle of the terminals in ORD. It has runway view rooms which are good! Idk anything else about ORD though
There is a Concorde there right? I’ve been there and it was amazing going to the museum
If you don’t have time to go far, you could fly to San Diego and go to the air and space museum and visit the midway which is really cool. Also there is good spotting under the approach rwy 27.
Can you bring a camera in there?
I just did both of these 2 weeks ago. Was awesome!
You could fly to IAD and got to the Dulles Air and Space Museum right beside the airport. It has a bunch of aircraft plus a space shuttle and a concord. Also there’s an observation tower and you can see planes land! It’s a great view of the airport and it’s great for spotting!
i used to live in san diego so i did it a bunch. the helicopter my dad flew is actually on the carrier which was pretty cool to see. i’m going back in 2 weeks so hopefully i get to do it again.
If you need a nearby place, consider San Francisco (I’m totally not biased): Great variety for spotting, there’s a couple of museum exhibits (and a new museum) inside the airport (as well as one outside called Hiller Aviation Museum). City is not too far if you think you’d like to go to SF as well. If you are want to make the BART or Caltrain trips, you can check Moffett, SJC, or Oakland too.
