I feel like the best way to edit backlit, is do to everything in your power to not shoot backlit in the first place.

Screenshot because I’m too lazy to export but here’s my attempt, this photo is really not all that backlit to be honest. General tips, shadows positive and exposure up are your best friends. Use masks to make sure the background doesn’t get too bright. Make sure you darken the shadowy parts of the plane like the gear manually so positive shadows doesn’t blow them out. Use a tiny bit of clarity/dehaze to try to build some contrast back in. Make sure you decrease blue saturation because fixing backlit normally results in really blue images. Don’t go crazy, keep it minimal. If you do too much you’ll just shift the negative attention from the backlit to the edit.

Could not be more true when I went to GSP to get my brother I got some good gate shots and some badish landing shots but the thing is THEY WERE (almost) ALL BACKLIT (edit forgot to say but my pfp is a pic I took during that spotting trip)
