Avelo Expands to Newport News and Lansing In Newest Route Announcement

Avelo, a new startup low cost carrier based in Southern California has recently been taking steps to strengthen their presence on the east coast, starting with their hub in New Haven.

Avelo has now announced 2 new destinations and 3 new routes to strengthen their presence. The airline will serve Newport News and Lansing starting in October of this year.

Newport News will gain service to Orlando, Florida on October 19, 2 times weekly, increasing to 3 times weekly on November 15.

Newport News will also gain service to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, beginning on October 20, 2 times weekly, increasing to 3 times weekly on November 15.

Wilmington (ILM) will gain service to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, beginning on November 11, twice weekly.

Lansing will gain service to Orlando, Florida on October 26, twice weekly.

Both of these cities, Newport News and Lansing have had Florida on their Small Community Air Service Development (SCASD) list, and Avelo can save up to $850,000 alone in fees and compensation for serving the Lansing flight to Orlando.

Overall, I’m excited to see this expansion from Avelo, and I cannot wait to see where they will go next!

This is interesting, I guess Avelo is banking on people wanting to fly out of the smaller Newport News airport instead of Norfolk since the airports are only 40 minutes apart. Hopefully it works out.
