Trip Report: Avelo Flight 118 – Burbank to Santa Rosa
The day started early for me, with a 6:23 AM boarding time for Avelo Flight 118, taking me from Burbank (BUR) to Santa Rosa (STS).
As I walked across the tarmac, the rising sun cast a orange glow over the airport, though the morning itself was fairly gloomy with overcast skies.
Stepping aboard the aircraft, I made my way to my pre-selected window seat, settling in as the rest of the passengers found theirs.
At 6:45 AM, we pushed back from the gate, the engines spooling up as we prepared for departure.
We began to taxi shortly after. However, there was no rush—Burbank’s strict noise abatement procedures meant we couldn’t take off until 7:00 AM.
After a brief hold near the runway, we lined up on Runway 15. The moment the clock struck 7, we throttled up and rocketed out of Burbank.
As we ascended, I caught a beautiful view of the southeastern San Fernando Valley—a familiar sight, as I live somewhere down there.
Once we leveled off at cruising altitude, the friendly crew handed out Avelo’s signature snack pack. It consisted of a small bottle of water and some Lorna Doone shortbread cookies. A simple but welcome touch.
Time seemed to fly by, and before I knew it, we were already descending into Santa Rosa.
On final approach to Runway 32, I had a fantastic aerial view of the entire city, with the rolling hills of wine country stretching out beyond.
A firm but controlled touchdown—textbook, in fact. We made a short taxi to Gate 4.
As I stepped off the aircraft and into the terminal, I took one last glance at the 737. It was now preparing for its next journey as Avelo Flight 135 to Salt Lake City.
A short but enjoyable flight, made even better by Avelo’s no-nonsense service and efficiency.
